I scanned a lot (not all) of the #Ubuntu launchpad PPAs, to see which ones are most popular. PPAs (Personal Package Archives) are Deb repos that developers can use to build and share software, libraries, and anything else you can jam in a deb package. #php #python #libreoffice

Is the phrase: "12.5% service charge is added for parties of 1 or more" in common parlance in the UK (outside London) these days? I nearly dropped my Krugerrands.

New Ubuntu Podcast episode. This week we've been upgrading a Steam box. We discuss Steam Play beta and Proton, Google's salty disclosure of security issue in the Android installer for Fortnite, and Windows 95 being available for all the things. We also round up the community news. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QYfNIYWMdI

In November, 12 GitHub repos had a SKILL md file. By March, 5,460. Most never get touched again after they're committed. We sent 622 PRs trying to fix the worst offenders. Here's what we learned — including the maintainer who politely told us to bugger off: https://tessl.io/blog/common-pitfalls-of-skills-development-and-how-to-fix-them/

The new #Framework Pro looks impressive. Will be interesting to see if those Intel CPUs can really compete with modern Apple Silicon devices on performance & power endurance. https://youtu.be/GnOpIQJnYWU https://youtu.be/GnOpIQJnYWU?si=qHl9tHlWZzMDOZnC

Why is Unicode PILE OF POO emoji called :hankey: in Signal? Yes, after the South Park character. Type :poo: and it suggests a poodle first. A poodle. Discord calls it :poop: which is fine, I suppose. We'll send cartoon faeces, but we draw the line at naming it accurately. Yes, I'm a killjoy. 💩

The #Ubuntu Studio team has been working flat out this cycle — new hosting, rewritten apps, squashed bugs. 💪 If you use it (or just love what they do), a donation goes a long way: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-studio-needs-donations/80295?u=popey https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-studio-needs-donations/80295?u=popey

Love the idea of setting Cursor's new Automations loose on my repos before bed, and waking up to a neat pile of PRs and bug triage. A tireless night shift of autonomous popey's, doing the boring stuff while I sleep. Results ready for human review with my morning coffee. ☕ https://tessl.io/blog/cursor-launches-automations-for-always-on-coding-agents/
