🙋🏻♂️ One more call for feedback! Yeah, I know, I often ask for feedback but, think about it, the more you share, the better the feature. 💡 Support low-quality image placeholders on the web! ➡️ ❓ Would you use this? What capabilities do you need? Read more 🔗 https://patrickbrosset.com/articles/2026-09-22-blurry-before-beautiful-image-previews-for-the-web/

Customizable selects are so 2025. Now is the time for styleable multi-thumb range controls! Great work by @utilitybend@front-end.social and Open UI. The element is being prototyped in Chromium, by our very own platform team. Can't wait to play with it, which you can do with the web component for now: https://brechtdr.github.io/enhanced-range-slider-poc/

Very clever @firefoxwebdevs@mastodon.social DevTools feature 🦊 When you go to a page from a file URL, with DevTools open, you can now map "https://firefox.localhost" to the file's parent folder. So, now, I have "https://firefox.localhost" wired up to my Downloads folder. No servers. Thank you Firefox!

🌏🗣️ Localizing PWAs is about to get a whole lot better! With manifest localization, you can now provide translations for your app name, description, icons, and more, which wasn’t possible before. Shipping in Chromium 148. Amazing work from Alexander Kyereboah on the Edge team. ➡️ https://developer.chrome.com/blog/manifest-localization

Getting inspired by all the things the new CSS grid lanes layout can do. Like this bottom-up and top-down layout. Sure, this layout isn’t the best for when order is important. But, man, is it cool for visual creativity.

On the Edge team, we think web apps should be easier to install. The default browser install button is great, but we'd like something which you can use on your own site, how and when you want it. That's why we're proposing the Web Install API, which you can now test! https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2025/11/24/the-web-install-api-is-ready-for-testing/

Ever tried positioning an emoji picker or autocomplete popup inside a <textarea>? Then you know the mirror <div> hack 😬 The new OpaqueRange API makes this a 3‑line problem ✅ Native inputs. No style syncing. No hacks. Try it out today in Chromium-based browsers. Brought to you by the Edge team. 🎬 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp9C68TZXiE

🤔 Does browser-stored data persist? 🤔 How much data can be stored in the browser? 🤔 How to check the available space? 🤔 What happens when an origin fills its quota? 🤔 When is data evicted? 🤔 How is data evicted? These questions, and others, now have correct and up to date answers on MDN Web Docs! ➡️ https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Storage_API/Storage_quotas_and_eviction_criteria

On the Microsoft Edge team, we're introducing a new way to draw separators between items of a grid, flexbox, or multicolumn layout. We think it overcomes a lot of the limitations of existing techniques, and we would love to hear your feedback to help us shape the final design. https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2025/03/19/minding-the-gaps-a-new-way-to-draw-separators-in-css/

Soon across all browsers: CSS contrast-color()! It returns a color that has guaranteed contrast against an other color. Very useful for computing text color with enough contrast against an unknown background. This demo doesn't use a single line of JS code to respond to the arrow keys. Movement of the player is handled 100% by the upcoming `focusgroup` HTML attribute! Focusgroup was definitely *not* made for this 😅 But, so cool to have this out of the box on the web. More ➡️ https://open-ui.org/components/scoped-focusgroup.explainer/

Making keyboard navigation effortless. Introducing focusgroup. Focusgroup is a new HTML attribute, with early support in Edge, Chrome, and other Chromium-based browsers, that completely handles arrow key navigation within complex widgets. No JS needed! ➡️ https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2026/03/05/making-keyboard-navigation-effortless/

I feel like this is either very dumb or very clever. Either way, I blogged about it: Using CSS animations as state machines to remember focus or hover states in CSS only. https://patrickbrosset.com/articles/2026-03-09-using-css-animations-as-state-machines-to-remember-focus-and-hover-states-with-css-only/

If you use a service worker's fetch event listener, would a `isReloadNavigation` boolean property be helpful to you? It would indicate if the current request was a user-initiated reload (e.g., refresh button click, location.reload(), or history.go(0)).

😪 Large web apps often fetch many resources at once, including 3rd party parts they don't control, creating slow UX. 💡 Network Efficiency Guardrails helps you catch and fix load bottlenecks. ℹ️ Check out our proposal to monitor and improve your app’s load perf: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2026/03/17/monitor-and-improve-your-web-apps-load-performance/

The web Notifications API lets you alert users in a nice OS-integrated way. But, what if you work on an audio/video calls app? Wouldn't you need slightly different notifications? Notifications that better convey the immediateness of a call? That have obvious Accept/Dismiss buttons? On the Edge team, we have a solution for this: https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/MSEdgeExplainers/blob/main/Notifications/notifications_actions_customization.md And an implementation in Chromium. If this is...

On the WebDX community group, we're trying something new to capture signals from you all on features you need but aren't supported across browsers yet.
