I often think that there's a fine line between obscure notation and madness... (Taken from https://blog.ivank.net/introduction-to-metamath.html) formula2 $p |- ( ( A -> A ) -> ( A -> A ) ) $= wa wa wa wim wim wa wa wim wa wa wim wim wa wa a1 wa wa wa a2 mp $.

I should stop using the verb "Google", as in "to search the web", since apparently they don't do that any more

As much as I hate technology, Jupyter (horrible name) Notebooks are kinda rad. I've been writing some little follow-along Python worksheets for the little 'uns (1st year undergrads) to go alongside the theory module Being able to just output a graph, or print an SVG string, or write a table, and have it rendered right there is so cool. Plus, it comes with a perfectly fine editor that runs in the browser (which can be hosted to students by projects like https://noteable.edina.ac.uk/docum...

I love Perl sometimes (quotes from https://perldoc.perl.org/perlre) "A question mark was chosen for this and for the minimal-matching construct because 1) question marks are rare in older regular expressions, and 2) whenever you see one, you should stop and "question" exactly what is going on. That's psychology...." "o - pretend to optimize your code, but actually introduce bugs"

Made a wee geometry/linear algebra thing, all transformations are done using "points" (vectors) which are manipulated using matrices :) Note: spotted some major flaws, further tinkering is required! https://patpatpat.xyz/data/Geometry.pm

The Silmarillion is fantastic, surprisingly readable too (there are quite a few characters, but each story only involves a few key ones). The geography is the hard bit imo I may even have enjoyed it more than The Hobbit and LOTR (don't quote me on that) I've built up this mental image of Beleriand, which is utterly useless (i.e., has no relevance to other Tolkien stories) The way all the histories/lineages/geographies compound on eachother is incredible. Everything echoes, and those e...

Playing with a non-overlapping circles thing. i.e., given a list of circles, find a radius so that none of the circles overlap :) (Probably some sort of k-d/quad tree would be useful, I'm just doing a lazy linear search)

Ah, the FOSS conundrum: I wish snac had better word muting (i.e., options for matching whole words case sensitive, maybe even regex?), but do I care enough to add the feature myself? Hmm... (If I could easily set up a local test environment I might be more likely to)

I'm having another go at my stack-based livecoding audio synthesis thingy from eons ago i.e., this outputs two sine waves whose frequency is oscillating : f 20 sin 1 + 0.5 * 440 * 220 + ; : hello f sin f 2 * sin 0 out ; I'm co-opting the (semi-)colon word from FORTH to define "players" (need to find a better name) These players are stored in a table, and each contains a "code" list and a personal stack. When a player is updated (which is all the time for audio-rate,...

Looks like YouTube has finally cracked down on the horrible practice of...watching YouTube videos without an account? It insists I "Sign in to confirm that you're not a bot", which is quite rich given the amount of DDOS-ing and aggressive crawling that Google is responsible for

I know this is pretty obvious...but predicate logic looks quite neat as a graph rewriting system (is everything just graph rewriting???) Its a shame that manipulating graphs using code is a faff (i.e., juxtaposition between line-based text and graphical 2D graphs) For example, De Morgan's looks like this...

I wrote some documentation for this silly Turing machine assembly language thing I've been fiddling with for ages :) https://patpatpat.xyz/data/turing.pl/turing.html The actual repository is here https://patpatpat.xyz/data/turing.pl I would like to include some translations of this code into real Turing machine diagrams, just to prove that it does actually work I feel like my writing in this is way too verbose, its been a while since I've written some non-fiction. I find it a lot har...

I implemented @neauoire@merveilles.town 's Rejoice, in Perl for some reason :) This was attempt like 3? I vaguely remember reading a Moore quote about "writing, rewriting, and rewriting again". I follow that advice religiously I absolutely hate writing parsers, and yet invariably end up having to write a parser. This is probably the best one I've done but its still a bit of a mess! The only difference I can spot between my implementation and the UXN one is that mine can'...
