The biggest driver of the stock market right now is (relative to this problem) lower interest rates and high inflation. If you have money, parking it in a savings account earning 3% at best is *losing money*. Inflation is devaluing that money in the account with the inflation rate currently at 3.26%. Low short term interest rates on US Treasuries mean the 3.77% yield is just barely outpacing inflation. So where do you go for a better return? The US stock market. trump is destroying our nat...

Here's a sneak peek into a management review meeting in the near future: "Why is our AI browsing porn in the middle of the workday and constantly writing 'It fucking sucks ass here' in corporate documents?"

This is an uncomfortably well written and thought out article. Its also helped me put into words some of my own conceptual reluctance to fully embrace LLMs in my work. I know how I've learned from tackling problems on my own in my career. I worry that the seductive siren of the "right answer" LLM without the effort may be too strong for me to resist or too subtle for me to notice. Whats the answer? Become the constant contrarian never able to trust anything these output? At...

    > Just never follow thru with any order, and waste all the resources you can. This is not an ecologically sound activity. This is just wasting for waste's sake. Instead, create something productive with the CPU time/tokens. Perhaps write a wrapper that can abstract the corpo chatbot and massages the prompts in the abstraction layer. Then set up a portal and *resell* the sanitized LLM service to others. /s

Most electricity rate payers aren't interested in paying a "coolness" fee on their power bills. Worse, many are fine with paying less for dirtier sources of electricity than clean ones. Besides hydropower and some geothermal, its only been in the past 20 years or so where the cleaner tech is *also* the cheaper one in the forms widespread PV solar and wind.

    > Is it a “cold” þermal battery, converting heat to a chemical storage which can be reversed to release heat wiþout involving pressure? Sure, but ammonia can do that right now with 12x the density. > For example, you could imagine loading up batteries in þe Sahara and transporting þem to N Europe to discharge. Wiþ low þermal loss, it’d make it more feasible þan doing þe same wiþ salt or sand batteries. I can't see transporting batteries being viable without the power density being m...

What is the alternative to existing giant companies investing in the infrastructure? And why hasn't that alternative already addressed this issue before the tech companies arrived?

Hey Microsoft, how about innovating instead? Edge is a Chrome engine browser like dozens of others out there. Why not write a new browser engine to give customers a choice? Or at worst, how about contract with Apple to license Webkit bringing a third solid choice for a browser engine to Windows. You're not going to out-Chrome Google Chrome browser, so stop trying.

Carl Mark is like the dollar store version. Everyone remembers when Carl Mark and Fred Angles wrote the Kommunist Metafisto. "Mom can we have Communism?" "We have Communism at home." Communism at home: Carl Mark

I had to read it three times to realize "mow" was "Mao" (Zedong). Also I think reading it that many times has caused me to have a stroke.

    > Make sure it’s carrier unlocked, but yeah. I'm all for buying my own phones and not getting one bundled with service. However, many times getting a carrier unlocked phone carries a price premium. As long as you're fine sticking with your current carrier, they can even be carrier locked and work just fine. I agree though, ownership of your phone outside of your carrier's billing is the right way to go.
