PSA for Western WA people: the Visiting Nurses are back giving COVID and flu shots - specifically at Seattle Public Schools between September 25th and November 22nd, but also in Bothell, Edmonds, Kirkland, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Redmond, Renton, and Sammamish too. They take insurance, but if you don't have it: out of pocket costs are $60 for a flu shot and $200 for a Moderna COVID shot. Lots of appointments available. https://www.seattlevna.com #seattle #health #flu #covid #vaccinati...

An overnight low in the 50s is such a blessing in August! Forecast says the smoke rolls in later, so I'm making the most of all the good fresh air (windows open, fans blasting). #seattle #WaWx

Congratulations to the student Cockroach protestors of India today: after weeks of protests (and abuse by Delhi police) the education minister has resigned and all their demands have been accepted by the Indian government. Today in petty annoyances: more than one eBay seller has put some plastic tat into my order as a "thank you" recently, which goes against half the reason I buy secondhand goods: to avoid plastic tat.

In gardening news: I am still unhappy with the growth rate of anything in the raised beds. Tomatoes are coming in, but the plants themselves are weedy compared to the ones in the pots and grow bags. It's big fertilizing weekend, so that might help, but I think after 10 years, adding mushroom/home compost is not enough to amend the soil. They need more. (advice welcome!) #gardening

This afternoon I'm rewatching Lars Von Trier's Breaking the Waves, which is one of my all time favorite films. I can't help but wonder if the same film, gender flipped to be about the government/war, would garner the same kind of criticism as this film does w/r/t misogyny and female suffering. #film

So the US just indicted Raul Castro. I wonder if Putin had enough forethought to plan an extraction, or if he's just leaving the old man (and the Cuban people) to whatever awaits him. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/us-expected-unveil-criminal-charges-against-cubas-raul-castro-2026-05-20/ #USpol #geopolitics #Cuba

I logged in to Nextdoor just to look at all the threads of obscenely wealthy Boomers complaining about the Lake Washington Blvd bike weekends. Did you know they do this with their real names? Amazing. #seattle

It is deeply funny to me that Mastodon is a place where AI bros cry because they can't get any traction, but a single picture of moss can give anyone, no matter their other content or follower count, positive feedback for the rest of time.
