PINE64 stopped producing devices dependent on RAM/storage chips — so, for example, no more PinePhones. What did we lose? From a phone perspective not much. Low-end hardware with no software support from the vendor. To be fair, we did lose FOSS modem firmware — on a device that is hardly usable. Today, companies like Fairphone produce phones of far higher quality than the PinePhone or PinePhone Pro, while also supporting Linux kernel development for their devices. #MobileLinux #LinuxMobile

Simple camera focus coil. One power input (VDD). One chip. Then usually one i2c 1.8V IOVDD (direct or level shifter). And half of the kernel drivers mark i2c shifter as VDD and other way. Hopefully we get out of this mess soon. Good night. https://lore.kernel.org/all/20260801-pp-pro-camera-v1-0-7b4d90788f9f@ixit.cz/

Today implemented Pixel 3 XL panel support, so now MDSS + GPU works, since the `sdm845-next-20260730-2` git tag. Since the similarity to the Pixel 3, Debian-based BengalOS and Mobial will run it soon. #MobileLinux #LinuxMobile #sdm845 #Pixel3 #Mobian #BengalOS

Wanted to unwind this evening, so I pulled my trusty old Motorola Moto G4 out of the drawer. It had become completely useless running 32-bit Android 7.0 these days... and then, somehow, a Linux kernel accidentally fell onto it. 😄 Time to see how much life this old device still has left. Definitely it can run 64-bit Linux. #Linux #Motorola #OpenSource #LinuxKernel #MobileLinux #FOSS #OldHardware

Best of Sashiko: Later, rmi_read_block() populates item->reg_size bytes. If a malicious peripheral provides a descriptor with a small reg_size but sets multiple bits in subpacket_map "...malicious peripheral..." in the context of a touchscreen. So ‒ you take your phone to a repair center and they install a malicious touchscreen... Personally, I think the most "malicious" touchscreens are the aftermarket ones that claim to implement features they act...

BengalOS is now booting on the Pixel 3! 🎉 Just two weeks after @agx@ruhr.social got it running on the Pixel 3a, support is already expanding. Next up: Snapdragon 845 devices, including the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, Xiaomi Pocophone F1, Xiaomi Mi 8, and more. https://bengalos.phosh.mobi/ #BengalOS #Phosh #LinuxMobile #MobileLinux #Pixel3 #sdm845

🚀 Big milestone for the SHIFT 6MQ! Just got it running through dockstation with: ✔️ keyboard ✔️ mouse ✔️ ethernet ✔️ ...DisplayPort output 🎉 Full external display support is now working, thanks to some hands-on implementation and a few extra patches on top of sdm845 Linux. Plug it in, and you’ve got a proper desktop experience. Running: https://codeberg.org/sdm845/linux + few custom patches which I'll try to finish today. #SHIFT6mq #sdm845 #MobileLinux #LinuxMobile #LinuxOnMobile

Sent the display notch cutout description file for the MacBook Pro (M2 Pro, 14"). It would be nice if, at some point, the GNOME desktop (e.g., Mutter/GNOME Shell) could work with this information and adjust UI elements accordingly. Soon, there will be more and more devices with display cutouts. There’s already amazing work by Phosh e.V. on this, so hopefully feature parity will come soon! https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/487 #asahi #GNOME #Ph...

On a bit of a streak today 🔥 Work in progress, but already a big milestone: the camera sensor on my SHIFT6MQ is up and running 📷 Still a lot to refine, but seeing the first photo come through feels great. Sharing the very first shot taken on mainline Linux with it 👇 #SHIFT #SHIFT6mq #LinuxMobile #MobileLinux #WIP #sdm845 #mainline

Got the camera working — then gave it focus. Always focus 😉 SHIFT6mq now has proper 📷 focus, and it finally feels usable. Build it yourself (for now): https://codeberg.org/sdm845/linux #SHIFT6mq #MobileLinux #LinuxMobile #sdm845

First picture from the dual front-facing IMX355 sensors on #Pixel3 📸 Both lenses are now alive under mainline Linux — standard + wide, just like Google intended. Still early bring-up, but seeing real images come through makes it very real. Ever wanted to use your phone's NFC reader on Linux? Now you can — right from GNOME! I built a minimal NFC app using neard and D-Bus — no hacks, no proprietary drivers. Just run the daemon, tap a tag, and it works. 👉 https://gitlab.gnome.org/dh/gnfc/ 1/2 #nfc #LinuxMobile #MobileLinux #Mobian #NixOS #postmarketOS

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Tuxdoctor/116247694950954874 I see this effort as a perfect successor to the postmarketOS wiki tables, which relied on manually filled support levels. It enables tracking across all distributions, different kernel versions, and patchsets. It’s simple: you run a diagnostics app, and at the end, you can upload the results for everyone to see. #MobileLinux #LinuxMobile #Linux #Kernel #MainlineLinux #Mobian #NixOS #postmarketOS

I have feeling I paid € 22 for faster grepping of source code. I mean, I'm not complaining, it does search nicely in ugly codebases. So "Go AI!"

When you're working on a bug fix, new feature, or even a small cleanup — share it early. The pool of developers is small. If you contributed support for a sensor on your phone, someone else might pick it up, test it, and enable it on theirs with almost no extra work. Your change can become part of bigger whole infrastructure. 1/2 #LinuxMobile #MobileLinux #LinuxOnMobile #Mobian #postmarketOS #NixOS

@GrapheneOS @navi @lumi > The GKI kernel doesn't contain SoC-specific or board-specific code. 😄 Are you making fun of me here or what's the goal here? Prove me you have right, even when obviously you don't have? Linux kernel contains all SoC, board specific bits + drivers. Let me translate for regular people: Google compiles minimal, itself not functional, Linux kernel core and then takes a glue (GKI) and put all the ugly stuff I mentioned in the first post it....
