RE: https://mastodon.social/@QasimRashid/117322091232765852 This wealth/wage/tax comparison meme has shown up in my feed on and off now every year or two for a decade and it just gets worse and worse

RE: https://mastodon.archive.org/@internetarchive/117283476420439728 I love the jarring complexity of a live performance at the physical location of the Internet Archive that is sold out, yet it has a digital stream, but that is not archived.

I simply can’t recommend this piece enough. DO NOT SAVE THIS FOR LATER, READ IT NOW OR LET IT GO and if you wonder why i am saying that, you must read it. There are so many descriptions of feelings and moments and causes in this piece that are completely familiar and explain how our digital curation has become an albatross to learning and connection and rest. https://cardcatalogforlife.substack.com/p/how-saving-replaced-reading?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=6665240&post_id=...

Kind of funny haha how Google changed the “search” box in the Gmail iOS app to be “Ask Gmail” instead and now it doesn’t search OR answer anything. Didn’t Google used to care about search?

Trying to access The Hill news site, I can’t pass this human captcha test. I’ve failed six times, persisting through reloads. There is no appeal or alternative. I’m realizing that “a robot shall not harm a human or through an action allow a human to come to harm” has a rather big loophole.

In honor of it being Friday, here's something light to make you laugh, about a cat that was summoned for Jury Duty. The comments are equally hilarious. https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/1ur3weq/a_very_interesting_series_of_events_yall_should/ (Should we tell him it's Thursday?) (....shhhhhhh)

How to fix soccer: 1. The field is too wide. Narrow it. 2. Too many players on the field. Limit it to at most five forwards and then two or three who primarily stay back. 3. Players should get to come in and out whenever a point is scored. Don't stop the game. 4. The ball is too bouncy. Make it much flatter. 5. You can throw the ball and catch it too. 6. No refs.

I always love me a good "Power mode search tips for Google" article, but this one stands above the rest. It's very well written, and it gives great contextual examples. It even has a few tips I'd never known before. https://cardcatalogforlife.substack.com/p/google-has-a-secret-reference-desk

You know that part in the movie where the robot gets smashed into 1 million little blobs of mercury, but then it reassembles itself and turns its head around 180° and continues to attack? Well, this Canadian bill is kind of like that. @OpenMediaOrg https://openmedia.org/press/item/ottawa-repackages-its-surveillance-backdoor-in-bill-c-22

Learning lots at a weekend symposium about artificial intelligence at LaSalle College, Vancouver put on by IATSE Local 891. Currently exploring the environmental effects and impacts of AI - actual facts about water, power, rare earth metal mining... Previous sessions were about the early and full history of AI, and the changing roles of curators and creators. Amazing the difference in topics and speakers (this panel is all women) when an event is organized by labor vs. by capital. https://ia...
