@ocramius@mastodon.social Not necessarily - it can be kind of like a visitor pattern where you pass around only the entity segments you'll operate on or reference. I used it recently when identifying webmentions from a struct containing a microformats hierarchy.

TIL: #forgejo has built-in capabilities for acting as a package manager for a variety of ecosystems... including #composer. That simplifies self-hosting packages!

Side benefit of self-hosting: had wireguard already setup, so creating an additional config for use as a vpn was a no-brainer. Enjoying secure wifi while traveling is a nice win!

@ello You're at neon, right? Who from your team is at Laracon, cause I'm sitting across from them in the vendor hall. 😁

Let's see how many folks at #LaraconUS are on the Fedi... Perforce Zend booth still has denim elephpants to give away! Stop by our booth!

The best part of being at #LaraconUS is nobody expects to see me here, and many haven't seen me in years and don't recognize the long-haired, grey-bearded hippy behind the Perforce booth. 🤣 It's so much fun to see the shock of recognition - "wait, you mean Zend? Like THE Zend?!? You're MWOP?" Having the best time!

I've been using Gnome shell as my desktop manager on Linux for over 10 years. I've consistently been annoyed with status tray icons, as they proliferate and are never in a predictable location. I found the Status Tray extension recently, and it's brilliant! https://github.com/keithvassallomt/status-tray #gnome

What if we'd required that any new data center applicant establish green energy supply equal to or greater to what they would draw from the grid? Imagine the advancements. Alas.

Over the long weekend, I wrote up some of my thoughts on AI, as a developer and product manager. tl;dr: they're mixed, but maybe not for the reasons you might expect. https://mwop.net/blog/2026-07-06-musings-on-gen-ai.html #ai #genai, #adhd #autism

Did some design changes on my website over the weekend. Man, but I love how far HTML5 and modern CSS have brought us since that summer in the mid-90s when I used tables and style tags to create a directory of resources for a university research center, and it looked like crap in every browser. Who am I kidding, all I had was Mosaic and Netscape.

Updated my /now page today, with an essay on the semi-quincentennial of the US. tl;dr: I hate what we've become as a nation, and hope we can change. https://mwop.net/then/2026-07 #politics #semiquincentennial #uspol

Recently ran across a #php oddity I'd not encountered before with `DateTimeImmutable::createFromFormat()`, and blogged about it: https://mwop.net/blog/2026-04-16-php-create-from-format-reset.html #til

"The Former Site of...", the new album by The New Pornographers, does not disappoint. Newman is still a lyrical master, and Neko's contributions leave chills down my spine.

RE: https://nileane.fr/@nileane/116313634805331071 I came into the HP series around the time book 4 was released, and it was an early read to our kids. But as time has gone on, I've become more educated on the racism and bigotry throughout the series, and JK's anti-trans platform killed the series for me years ago. Every dollar spent on HP-related media fuels hate and endangers people.

On trans day of visibility, I just want to say to my trans family, friends, and neighbors: I love all of you. And fuck the people who want to make you disappear because of their own discomfort and narrow-mindedness. #tdov

Been "reading" the Laundry Files via audiobooks for the past year, and am currently in "The Delirium Brief"... And damn if @cstross@wandering.shop wasn't prescient when writing it. DOGE feels like it came straight out of it, though instead of wiping out agencies for a private sector takeover, we got the incompetent version that just fucked everyone over.

@cstross@wandering.shop They were too busy having their egos (among other things) massaged by minors to pay attention back then.

@ProPublica@newsie.social There were ballot measures in SD a number of years ago that suffered the same fate - overwhelming popular support, and then the legislature went and nullified them. :-|

RE: https://phpc.social/@zend/116165637064739828 This is a product I've been working towards since 2019! It's been hugely rewarding to see what my engineering and DevOps teams have produced, and I really couldn't be happier with the results. #php was always meant to scale horizontally, and technology like kubernetes has always seemed like a good fit for accomplishing it... but k8s can be a bear to learn. The Helm charts we've produced, along with the simplified...
