#Train to #Newcastle this morning is a real variety show. We have people with luggage who got on at the airport then changed trains when I did, people whose bicycles fit the weird bike holders on #Marayong units, someone with a double bass in a soft case, a blind dude with a service dog, and a woman who got on the wrong train and has been on the phone ever since waiting to get onto a train back to Central. Fun times.

Nothing says socially well adapted like an electric motorbike that has a bluetooth speaker strapped to it. On the train. Of course the speaker is blasting out Sik Tunes Bruv. Sigh. #SydneyTrains #QuietCarriage

@Kay@fosstodon.org #PersonalPlaylist #JukeboxFridayNight https://malwebb.com/watbear.html Something much more fun. I have fond memories of a friend dancing round the house singing this seemingly unable to stop. It was very silly (it still is very silly).

From the masters of reimagined old style pop songs, "Chartist Anthem". Remember when universal suffrage was a controversial idea? Oh. Um. Well, anyway, here's a song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Me34N1Q0pvc They have so many of these that it's hard to pick one. "Day the nazi died" is a bit of a crowd favourite and is also about history (remember when being a nazi was controversial?). #JukeboxFridayNight #History

#JukeboxFridayNight to make up for Tiddas, here's a real dance banger from Australia 30 years ago. So historic it has its own wikipedia page! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_(song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfFOAPJE_HQ

Tiddas: Mission Song. This one's not a happy sing along sort of song. But it is well sung. About Australia's genocidal history of stealing aboriginal children and re-educating them into British ways. Or just enslaving them, because yeah we did that. Sorry. (Tiddas also have their sorry song "sorry means you don't want it to happen again") https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPVKhgAmghE #JukeboxFridayNight #History

https://www.nzonscreen.com/all-music-videos/e-tu-1988/ A kiwi classic about the "forgotten" history of Aotearoa. I can't not post it. In 1846 in the Hutt Valley I said Fighting broke out between the British and the Maori And more than one settler on disputed land Was killed when the Maori fought the British Plan Lyrics https://genius.com/10147208 Worth knowing that Nga Tamatoa in the first line was also a Maori language promotion group that the Posse would have grown up with....

@MarkBrigham@universeodon.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social @ascentale@sfba.social It needs specific support for each city/area it works in, because it really does redirect reports to a plethora of relevant bodies. They say "anywhere in Australia and Aotearoa" but the idea can obviously be generalised. Recipients have to pay for extra features, I'm not sure of the exact model. But some councils always reply "please use our website" then get shitty when the report should go...

A Jesus and Mary Chain cover in a completely different style to the moaning dirge of the Reid brothers. It's almost happy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1UH6HjLGW8 #JukeboxFridayNight

All these renewable energy posts remind me of this lovely song from my childhood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm0L5HmBbvI And of course the anti-nuclear activist version of the lyrics "turn off the sun, turn off the sun, darken the world, kill everyone" #NanaMouskouri

weird, #Debian laptop spent all of yesterday locking up when I ran any browser (4 options!) or Thunderbird, but now that I have booted into command line and backed everything up it's fine again. I also reseated bits and ran the BIOS hardware tests and they were fine. But booting to the GUI after that was still sad-making. I could run htop in a terminal for hours though. Being about to re-install the OS has apparently fixed it.

"Until now, nations on both sides of the conflict have confined their attacks to civilian infrastructure, where the damage is unlikely to affect critical services. But Israel’s attack on..." What good news, only waging war on civilian targets until now. How very civilised and law-abiding of the attackers. But oh no! Things could escalate from innocent people being killed to something that actually matters: damage to the economy. https://theconversation.com/why-middle-east-g...

Have been off sick today but the legs are clamoring for some exercise. Feeling both headachy *and* twitchy. This is no fun. Still, I can solve one problem. With a bike ride. #BikeTooter

@johnquiggin have you seen the metaphor of economy/government as garden before? It's new to me and seems useful. https://chrisdillow.substack.com/p/policy-making-as-gardening
