@douglasvb For full VM backups: PBS to S3 buckets (if in Europe and wanting to get away from American big tech: OVH, Intercolo, but not Hetzner unfortunately whose S3 is still too unreliable and fails to often with PBS); for file based backups: restic to the same type of targets. If you have a NAS at a friend/relative you might look into setting up your own S3 storage on it or in a VM with Garage or versitygw (SeaweedFS is great, too, but more complex probably overkill for you).

@douglasvb Absolutely. I'm just so used to looking at IT infra from a European perspective (and from the POV of not wanting to subject us & our customers to even more dependencies on the big hyperscalers) that I default to listing the Europeans versions. Hence the late reply with Backblaze, which we did use for quite a while, and which worked just fine. In my view they didn't do anything wrong or egregious, have super fair pricing, easy enough to use etc. etc. — they just...

@douglasvb OMG that's so hilarious! That kind of humor reminds me so much of some of my favorite movies from likely the same time period, Airplane! and its sequels. Even the German dub was incredibly funny as they accounted for local differences & idiosyncrasies (e.g. the two black dudes speaking with deep Texan (?) slag? In German they have the strongest Bavarian accent, and that is just as jarring and funny).

Alrighty, let's do another MKVToolNix release, v98.0 this time. Again, pretty small in scope, but then again there's no use in not doing a release, so why not? 😂 Have fun! https://www.bunkus.org/2026/04/2026-04-05-mkvtoolnix-v98-released/ #MKVToolNix #Matroska

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@tarsius/116380001656044900 I've just donated (for the second time in my life). Magit has been my "can't live without it" tool for certainly much more than a decade now. Makes me so much faster, makes working with git so much more fun & accessible. And Jonas has been doing tireless work on it for years and years now. Everyone, donate to this fine person! ❤️
