@signalapp@mastodon.world Not to potentially beat a dead horse, but is there any work in the pipelines to address the Careless Whisper vulnerability?

@urlyman@mastodon.social I was under the impression that Bluesky was also only chronological feeds? I think one thing contributing the “connectivity” on Fedi is just that there are so few people here. Bluesky has somewhat hit mainstream awareness; once your platform hits millions of DAU, it’ll be hard to make yourself “stand out” in a sea of hundreds of thousands of daily posts, regardless of there being an algorithm or not.

@godotengine@mastodon.gamedev.place Do you guys have a donation nag? Both KDE and GNOME use a yearly(?) donation nag and it seems to do wonders for their monthly sustainability; maybe implementing a similar feature on version updates can help boost monthly donations to what they were about a year ago!

@badastro@mastodon.social “I remember when I first sat down and calculated this myself. The answer I got for the torrential gravitational waves spawned by a stellar-mass black hole collision was a number that was so immense that I thought I’d made a mistake.” There’s a certain romance in someone sitting down and manually confirming the absolute immensity and incomprehensibility of the cosmos, lifting the veil themselves. I’m jealous of your ability to do so; fantastic write-up!

@crazyeddie@mastodon.social @0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange I don’t see any sides to take; it IS great that there’s a space for people with more niche hobbies to be find each other (I’d be hard pressed to find as many F/LOSS advocates on corporate social media!) But the topic HERE is of people trying to consider what it would take to make a F/LOSS alt to a corporate product—ideologues like ourselves will be less apt to figure out what that is for the layperson, since we AREN’T the layperson.

@crazyeddie@mastodon.social @0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange Generally, yeah, a little bit. The Fediverse is still by-and-large a place where people REALLY into privacy, F/LOSS, and digital sovereignty come together; I remember a post from someone who tried to get into Lemmy as a Reddit replacement, and lamented the fact that every thread would consistently end up talking about Linux or politics. This is a platform where many don’t realize that their opinions and interests are highly rare IRL.

@scalzi I LOVE THE SPECULATIVE AI MARKET‼️‼️ 🤩🤩🤩🤩💀🤩🤩🤩🤩 I sincerely wanted to try setting up a gaming rig this year (tons of my friends are gamers) and it’s so FREAKING cool knowing that nonexistent data centers holding nonexistent cloud compute servers running nonexistent AI models already bought all the RAM in the local cluster. 🙃

@scalzi I imagine you sitting at your desk, writing your next novel, hitting writer’s block, and looking up at the massive illuminated writing utensil above your head as though it’s taunting you.

Would anyone happen to know if there’s a #FOSS alternative to #Partiful? Some tool that allows for #party and/or #event #planning that, most importantly for my age demographic, supports SMS as a link-sharing tool. I looked at #mobilizon, but it seems they only support email notification (besides Fedi, naturally.) Feel free to boost if you think someone that follows you might know! #eventplanning #parties #invitation

RE: https://mastodon.social/@kagihq/116013637460783600 This is insanely high-quality. I wanted to play around with its #Spanish translation capabilities and noticed it had Spanish from #costarica specifically. So I gave it as much #tico slang as could make sense and it got it incredibly well. Obviously, #translation is an art, and I might’ve used slightly different wording, but an anglophone would absolutely get the sentiment from this translation. It looks like I can’t post a picture on a q...
