This Wednesday, I'm playing a set for the first time since **gulp** the pandemic. This is terrifying. Whose idea was this?!? #Chicago #Music #songwriting #songwriter

Sometimes I just want to be civilian annoyed and bitchy about a show, but it’s an assignment so I have “show my work” and “support my criticism” with specifics. Anyway, my life is very hard. #Reviewer #Theater #Theatre

I love Larissa Loden's stuff. I REALLY want the "Fuck" bracelet (to go with my "fuck" stud), but I'm resisting. But I don't think the good people of Mastodon need to exert such silly self-control: https://larissaloden.com/ #Jewelry #smallbusiness

Ever thought about taking a #songwriting class? My beloved teacher, Steve Dawson, has some slots open in his Thursday night class, beginning this week (April 30). It's hybrid, so there will be people in the classroom in #Chicago and others on Zoom. The format works really well for the class and I can't say enough good things about Steve as a teacher: https://www.oldtownschool.org/classes/detail/?courseid=2039 #Music

Hmm. Have an in-person job interview on Thursday. The rug is being pulled out from under me slowly, I guess. #JobHunting #Editor

I'll be volunteering for the Old Town School of Folk Music Record Sale on May 9. It's an event worth checking out if you're in the #Chicago area. Tons and tons of items, and the proceeds benefit the school's #library I've volunteered there for more than 20 years. https://www.oldtownschool.org/community/recordsale/ #Music #Records #Vinyl #CD #78s

Nothing makes a recovering #database designer as twitchy as trying to add a medication to one's own medical record. Data normalization is nothing but a rumor. The horror.

A conversation in my house this evening. Me [to the #Dog]: What kind of monster would make some one write a song with a bridge that modulates up a perfect fourth, then returns to the original key? Spousal Unit: You? Me: No! [#Songwriting teacher]! Spousal Unit: Ah. I thought YOU were the monster at the end of the book.

It has always been very annoying that on the Canvas iOS client, one could not change the color of a highlighted comment after the fact. You had to delete the highlight, select the new color, and set the highlight down again. So, of course, now the desktop client does the same thing as the shitty iOS version. #Grading #LMS #enshittification

"The SPLC, which is based in Montgomery, Alabama, was founded in 1971 and used civil litigation to fight white supremacist groups. The nonprofit has become a popular target among Republicans who see it as overly leftist and partisan." Do you think they'll get it? I don't think they're going to get it. #USPol #Racism #DepartmentofJustice

@0xabad1dea Not okay, other lady. My dog had a ruptured disk a few years ago and lost use of her hind legs for a time (she's doing great now, and we walk 6+ miles every day). Of course I worry about dogs who want to roughhouse at the dog park because reinjury is a persistent risk (my dog ignores 90% of other dogs, but she does like to zoom around and scream at squirrels), but it's on me to keep an eye out and remove her from the situation as needed.

A self-comforting things I've been doing is re-listening to #spontaneanation on dog walks. I remembered the existence of The Pistols Shrimps from my first listen several years ago, and I also remembered the existence of Pistol Shrimps Radio because a concept dumb enough to be brilliant stays with you. I have no memory of learning this documentary had been made. I watched this last night and it is absolutely worth 75 minutes of your time #Documentary #Movie #Sports #WomensSports #MorganS...

If you already have a shitty relationship with the way your body looks, might I suggest that you never investigate a health problem that might lead to you having to self-inject daily, because JFC does that do a number on the psyche. #Health #BodyImage

2ish weeks ago, I stepped into a hole on a Danger Beagle jaunt and did anatomically inadvisable things to my right ankle. It hurt immediately, but it was also obvious that nothing was broken or even sprained to the point of serious immobility. I had an impressive croissant-shaped bruise, posterior to my lateral malleolus. Mad pain when internally rotating my foot or flex toward the midline. It's fucked up, but my "seek care" tank is empty. This is a bougie, privileged p...
