An interesting conflict between a Dutch media creator Roel Maalderink (together with Bits of Freedom) and Meta regarding Meta glasses. The guy made a video wearing the glasses outside the Meta office in Amsterdam. The video showed several Meta employees reacting negatively to the glasses, and even asking multiple times if he was filming (showing that even they couldn’t see if the glasses are active.) Instagram took the video offline, which is the first time this creator had a takedown of one...

There’s a company called “Bilfinger” and I cannot drive past it with a straight face. (For non-Dutchies: “bil” is Dutch for “butt” and the Dutch word for “finger” is… 🥁 “vinger”) 🫢🙈

RE: https://mastodon.social/@djangonews/117044723592407007 New Django just dropped! 🙌🏻 🚀 I’m happy to see an implementation of one of my accessibility feature requests in there as well: `django.db.models.fields.BLANK_CHOICE_LABEL`. I don’t have the spoons to explain it right now, but the backstory is in the ticket. #Python #Django

Wanted to quickly check something on a streaming service on my laptop (I normally use the iPad app for this). And the website refuses because "something went wrong." One trip to the inspector panel reveals that, just like months ago when I last tried, it's some analytics app crashing and refusing the entire service. Thank you, AdGuard… I suppose. 🫡

We’re being bombarded with photos and videos of burning landscapes from many countries. And I can’t stop thinking about that moment a few weeks ago. A festival preceded by a heatwave, outdoors in the dry grass. And the stranger who tossed his cigarette stub on the ground without looking, close to our feet, the remains still smoldering. I didn’t know the guy, but I instantly knew that I didn’t like him.

I just read that LinkedIn adds a feature to report AI slop and bad quality content. Maybe they want to go bankrupt. 🤭

It’s been pretty exciting to get tagged in messages about someone starting a blog or learning vanilla CSS after my enthusiasm (eh, evangelism?) got them inspired to do so. I’ve learned so much from other people and I think humanity is at its best when we share our passions and knowledge.

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@molly0xfff/116954604867619055 In case an alcoholic reads this: Always quit alcohol under medical supervision. Quitting cold turkey can lead to complications like strokes, but likewise continuing the drink is not good for you either. But whatever you do, do not trust LLMs to give you adequate medical advice tailored to your situation. #alcohol

Just overheard this beautiful snippet at the customer service desk of a local hardware store: Customer: “I don’t know if this thing is doing what it’s supposed to be doing.” CS: “In principle, it is doing what it’s supposed to be doing.” 💯

I just found a new (to me) Justfile technique that brings me joy: Arguments as flag. The scenario: * I want to call one of two available NPM commands through a Justfile. * The NPM command is either Biome in check mode, or Biome in fix mode; respectively called `biome` and `biome:fix`. * I want to avoid creating two Just recipes, just because it feels better than having two (my current situation). The solution: 1. Create a recipe argument `fix`, written as flag `-f` or `--fix` on the command...

RE: https://social.coop/@cwebber/116857170664895331 Love it when bad things happen to bad companies. Even more ironic that with all the money in the world they didn’t see this coming (or rather, refused to see it coming.)

@randahl@mastodon.social I love that Mastodon also reports when someone edited a post you liked, in case you do not agree with the new version.

I am so done with these people regularly setting off fireworks in the area. 😒 (And yes it’s illegal here except for a few hours a year, but nobody gives AF; some even did it around the heatwave.)

I am not affiliated with the company or know anything about them, but this product made me smile today: Lace safety vests. The young people would probably say something about “feeling bonita on the worksite 💅🏻” https://lacesafetyvest.com/

Look at these three baby wrens hanging around in their nest. The nest resides in a decorative wreath above a terrace. It took the owners a while to realize the birds were there, as they are tiny, camouflaged, and apparently very chill around humans. #birds

I made my first proper stitches on a sewing machine today at the maker space with the help of a friend. The heatwave collided with a tight schedule, so getting *anything* done was an achievement. 🙌🏻 I also learned that my neighbor is very happy to let me borrow her machine in the hopes that I will enjoy it and do some future work for her (because she doesn’t like it)* 😂 *(She would have let me borrow it anyway.)

I still think it's kind of funny, in an ironic way, that the same capitalism that destroys our world may also be responsible for the downfall of AI products. Something something broken clock.
