Some people care about "white birth rates" in the US. I don't and never researched them. Race is a rather tedious social construct. I should have looked in - apparently a "white birth" is based on the race of the mother. If she's white, it's a white birth. Brack Obama was a white birth. As I said, it's a stupid topic.

It's amusing that Gen X and Millennials are the only generations who know how to use a computer. I had to explain them to older people. Now I have to explain them to younger people. Sigh.

Wonder what would happen if a bunch of US B-2 and B-52 pilots defected to Ukraine and dropped their bombs on Russian oil sites instead of Iran.

So Iran can continue its nuclear program, it can charge tolls in Hormuz, it gets sanctions lifted. So a better deal for Iran than the Obama deal, but a bunch of people had to die and the US had to spend around $50 billion. Brilliant negotiator. Top notch.

Why do oranges (and things that look like oranges) have a variable number of sections. I've seen 8, 9, 10 and 11.

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/116089628488517165 Here's the deal - I regularly get into arguments with family and friends on these things. I'm not popular at parties. I don't honestly like going out because arguments like these are exhausting so I don't go out as much. If you're white and you don't have these sorts of discussions where you call out racist, sexist xenophobic crap, you're just not doing the work. And yes. It sucks...

I've had a weather station set up in my back garden for a week now. I can confirm that the weather in #Ireland is crap.

I set up trivy for my opentofu pipelines today. I wonder if there's anything I should read up on since I last looked. ๐ฑ ๐ฑ ๐ฑ ๐ฑ

Hey #Ireland, might not be a bad time to write your TDs and tell them we need to do something soon to reduce the impact of energy and food costs. And removing fuel taxes isn't it. Increasing grants for solar PV installs - and more battery storage, encouraging people to move to EVs, insulation grants. Anything to reduce energy usage and to help make existing wind power useful will help. And honestly, doing something to get as much wind power online as quickly as possible.

Reading the notes for the gitlab cli: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/cli#installation I like the lefthook idea (new to me), but then looking at it, it then wants to install mise (a curl ... | bash deal ๐) and npm. Sigh. That's an awful lot to dump on my machine just to run hooks.

I wrote a little script to catch unknown commands in zsh. Wrote it up in the following snippet. It's rough and I can probably extend it. And xdg-open works on Linux, but does it work on other popular desktop OS's like FreeBSD, OpenBSD and OpenIndiana? https://gitlab.com/-/snippets/5972072

"We should install nuclear." Lots of us already have. Here in Ireland I have a nuclear power system that produces between 5.5 to 6 MWh a year. Now, to be fair, I only have the nuclear energy collectors on my property. They're these big black rectangles. I'm using this old fusion reactor that I noticed was hanging around one day.

This is really neat. The go fix command is a great way to keep code bases current. It now lets you apply this to your own code - or for library developers to help keep your code current. #golang https://go.dev/blog/inliner

Hey #php peeps! I'm looking at putting a bunch of php containers on a diet and #frankenphp looks really interesting. Is it getting wide adoption?
