So, yeah. Another #EuroBSDCon is behind us, and we're sad to leave. It has been incredible meeting all the old farts and new hopefuls - more of the latter than ever, I think! Great talks in all tracks - including the hallway one. Even some conspiracies for good, which is always fun. There were too many highlights to mention, so I'll just shout a big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to making this a fantastic experience - again. On a personal note I ask/hope those of you who said h...

Having an absolute blast at #EuroBSDCon as always. Loads of cool people, excellent tutorial on the #CRA and its implications for open source, very interesting #bhyve developments, a fantastic "debut" by Federico Angelilli bringing kernel live patching on #FreeBSD through his #GSOC project. As always I brought some properly obsolete hardware: a 486slc2 running #NetBSD (or OS/2 on request), a Toshiba luggable 486SX2-66 with #DOS and #MonkeyIsland, #DOTT, #Larry, #SpaceQuest or whatnot,...

#Norsktut #Allheimen #22juli

Making sure this beast of a #486 is ready for #EuroBSDCon .. It'll run #DOS, #NetBSD and OS/2 - and circles around nothing. #Retrocompuing #OS2 #Slowcomputing #EuroBSDCon2026

So I got an interesting #Floppy #Recovery job in my lap today .. a promo floppy(!!) for the band Everything but the Girl .. remember those people? Anyway: badly damaged it seems, hard to get much out of the disk, but I keep trying. Giving #RecoveryWhiskers a good workout with it (thanks for your help and patience, @JennyFluff@chitter.xyz !), will try some more with the straight #GreaseWeazle tools. Learning a lot here! #Music #EverythingButTheGirl (as if anyone is following *that* hashtag...)

On my way to #Foss-North in Gothenburg, Sweden. I'll be giving a talk about being old and nostalgic and protecting a BBS running on a 386 from the Wild West that is the Internet. The talk will be given using the 486 PC in the pictures. #Retrocomputing #DOS #FOSS #fossnorth2026 #fossnorth

TFW you're upgrading to #FreeBSD 15 and it has fixes for inotify (an entirely new implementation, actually) which renders all your old workarounds for inotifywait and friends moot - and causes monitoring to go nuts because things you relied on not working suddenly work. It's been a long evening. And I'm not even complaining! :D

@polpo@chaos.social bah humbug. Anyone who wants this has only perfectly normal systems. Nothing weird anywhere. Just one of your 1500 or so run-of-the-mill IDE and ATA implementations, right? ;D

@forteller@tutoteket.no Sadly some sellers have found my Kryptonite which is called "limited supply" so I'd have to keep that plugin disabled most of the time ... :D

@grumpygamer@mastodon.gamedev.place @foone@digipres.club In fairness, it is entirely possible that without strict, limited trust and https someone could hijack the traffic and inject tainted skin data. I'm fairly sure the Minecraft code is nowhere near robust enough to handle that attack vector gracefully...

@jbz@indieweb.social This is just insane. The author obviously bears no responsibility here, but sadly I'm fairly sure they'll be hounded across the Internet for this. :-(
