@wtfwtf_ok@hachyderm.io I'm not sure if it's funny or depressing that these tech people who have built empires on causing harm are so thin skinned.

I've started using mind maps for tracking the progress of my various client cases. I've been using a spread sheet to keep track of where I am with them, but it doesn't quite work as an overview. I tend to think in hierarchical formats anyway, so I think this might be helpful. #genealogy #geneadons #productivity #organisation

I was talking with a doctor last week about my early fascination with #genetics (due to a documentary I saw decades ago about the search for the genetic basis of Huntington's). I said that if I had been scientifically minded, I would probably have pursued a career in genetics. The doctor said it could be argued that, by becoming a #genealogist, in a sense I did exactly that. Hadn't thought of it that way. I just ended up studying how genes are passed down rather than how they go wrong. #...

I'm turning it off now because I just can't watch Trump insert himself into the Beautiful Game.

Finally! This match was really hard to watch. But Spain deserved it - well done, Espana. #WorldCup #Fedifc

@MisophonicSpree@universeodon.com I'm not counting on it.

I think Argentina should have just put their goalie on for this game. He's the one actually playing against Spain. #WorldCup #Fedifc #ESPARG

@MisophonicSpree@universeodon.com @dm@polymaths.social @JoeWynne@mstdn.plus My husband and I have discussed this many times: What happened to US television entertainment? It used to be genuinely creative - I don't think it would be able to come up with the Muppets now.

    @MisophonicSpree@universeodon.com @dm@polymaths.social @JoeWynne@mstdn.plus I must say, the Muppets were a nice touch.

@MisophonicSpree@universeodon.com @JoeWynne@mstdn.plus The World Cup never thought they were necessary. It used to be about two teams kicking a ball around. Americans find that boring, though, apparently.

@MisophonicSpree@universeodon.com I'm predicting more close-ups of Trump's ignorant face than of anything on the pitch.

@MATAK79@stranger.social @Fuzzy_Doug@dice.camp Yeah, this was announced weeks ago. At least it sounds like they'll try to keep it within the time span of an actual half time, instead of turning it into a three-hour extravaganza of glitz and advertisements like they do with the Super Bowl. (I'm told. I've never watched the Super Bowl in my life.)

A bit nervous about the final this afternoon. I want to watch a football game, not the Trump show.

If I'm looking for a new programme or productivity app, and the first thing I see on a company's page is "AI", I immediately go elsewhere. I understand that nearly every such app uses AI, and even that it can be useful for some things, but if it's so important to them that it's the first thing I learn, that suggests that it is far more central to the app/programme than I'm comfortable with. I can reluctantly accept AI as a tool in some situations, but how much of my...

Just heard this morning that a second major #hospital in #Ottawa is significantly cutting #nursing staff. This is in a city where we already regularly see 10 plus hour waits in ER (not to mention a ridiculous shortage of family doctors). All due to budget cuts by the Conservative provincial government, which, like conservative governments everywhere, is devoted to privatizing #healthcare. Like many Canadians, I'm perfectly happy to pay a bit more in taxes to ensure that everyone can get the...

Ah well. All the teams I traditionally support (plus Canada, which, obviously. . . .) are now out. I'll have to just watch with unbiased appreciation for the rest of this. #WorldCup

@MisophonicSpree@universeodon.com You never know with footballers. They might come back to life in the last few minutes. Morocco was taking sensible precautions.

I must reluctantly admit that #Morocco is really quite good. The coordination alone, and the passing. If they weren't beating #Canada, I'd really enjoy this. #WorldCup #fedifc

@MisophonicSpree@universeodon.com Ooh, nicknames too. Yeah, those are always fun to try to work out.

I have always loved and been fascinated by personal names, and the #WorldCup is a feast.

One of the games my husband plays is a sort of fantasy #Americanfootball game, but it comes from a UK company, and I really doubt they even know what American football is. They call the field 'the pitch', which is at least understandable, but they also talk about deciding the game in #penalty shoot-outs. And I absolutely cannot fathom how penalty shoot-outs would even work in American football.

  • View post

This is why I love #football - you can start out with a clear idea of which team is far more likely to win . . . but you never know what will actually happen. #WorldCup #fedifc

I saw no valid reason for that goal to be disallowed. Nobody touched the goalie, he just dived over. Like the announcer said, he was play-acting for the ref, and he got away with it. Incredibly annoying. #WorldCup #fedifc
