a big reminder that *FOSS apps can still be centralized* some simple questions to ask: - if the app connects to a server, is that serverside part proprietary? - does the app have hard-coded servers, or can the user change them? - does the app promote running small instances? i have never regretted going to bed early, only going to bed late 🛏️ even if not tired, i can read, plan/journal, or just meditate 📖 way easier to have a good sleep schedule if the barrier of going to your room is removed #Productivity #Sleep

i was thinking that we need a term for proprietary/centralized software "prisonware" came to mind, and was reinforced when i saw a post describing google as a prison 🗝️ most people don't know what proprietary, or centralized mean in terms of software, much less that they are bad 🤷‍♀️ (1/4) #FOSS #FLOSS #FreedomTech #FreeSoftware #Privacy #Decentralisation #Decentralization #Prisonware

there are good bots and there are bad bots bad bots pretend to be human and randomly reply to posts 🥸 good bots are cleary labeled 🤖 as bots bad bots spam as fast as they can 🗯️ good bots appear when called, only trigger by pattern (ex: haiku bot), or post to their own feed if you are going to make/unleash a bot on socials make sure it's a good one 🙏 and provide a link to the bot's (open) source, so people can tell you if it's gone rogue! #Bot #Bots #ClawBot #OpenCla...

linux isn't systemd; we have openrc, runit, and many more android isn't motorola/google/samsung; we have graphene, lineage, f-droid, and more the people pushing #DeveloperRegistration and #AgeVerification want you to believe there are no alternatives available that's NOT true, there are solutions out there right now: (1/2) #systemd #KeepAndroidOpen

if i ever made a dating profile: 💘 likes: FOSS, decentralization, privacy dislikes: people who contribute to the network effect of centralized services/platforms (discord, signal, facebook, twitter/X) hobbies: writing code, looking at cats, spreading free software info

BlockAds is a great FOSS android app (available on f-droid/Izzy) it uses local filters to block ads, trackers + analytics, and more 🚱 i was surprised just how much stuff was being sent that BlockAds saved me from, even from some other FOSS apps 🙀 it's a must-install, i also reccomend setting it as an "always on" vpn in android settings too #adblock #android #privacy

(1/2) are you committed to decentralization? for me, that means both being open to new freedom tech AND remaining ready to use existing ones i keep almost every decentralized/FOSS messaging app or my accounts on social medias if anyone ever says to me "do you use _?" i should always be able to say "yes" #FLOSS #FOSS #FreeSoftware #Decentralization #Decentralisation #FreedomTech

(1/3) i really hope that in 100 years, it will be just as common and just as serious to say "i believe in Free+Decentralized Software" as it is now to say "i believe in free speech" people are starting to understand, but only partly or for the wrong reasons (privacy, microslop, cost, etc) #FreeSoftware #FOSS #FLOSS #OpenSource #Decentralization #Decentralisation #FreedomTech #FreeDecentralizedSoftware
