@hamishb @corvus @hewer_of_code @pluralistic He's my MP, so is there an ideal way to organize around this/get in his face? I am happy to call some friends and start getting in his face.

Thought while reading news today: The denazification process that'll have to come into the United States is going to take generations. It's going to be the biggest regional job creator of the century.

@hamishb @corvus @hewer_of_code For context: I am a working organizer, although municipally, not federally. So this is not a Process 101 question asked from ignorance; it's a tactics question asked from experience re: an issue that's outside my usual remit. Thanks!

RE: https://aoir.social/@sakhavi/117271612063305533 All that creativity hoovered up to train LLMs and they're still not making these guys better bullshitters. I could have bullshitted a better cover story *in my sleep*. An *evidence-based* bullshit. That's the power of a social science and humanities education. 🍵

RE: https://mastodon.social/@merlinwisdom/117271638899075320 But I don't know yet, and that's why I have to go sniff it. It could be startling in there. It could be the informational equivalent of a bible in my front uniform pocket in ten years' time in a trench I never thought I'd be in, or the guitar chord you play over and over in your head, or a murmuration of starlings. I mean, how on earth would I know until I get there? Who honestly knows in the moment wh...

The one major flaw in Cyrano de Bergerac (1950): No one can suspend enough disbelief to buy Jose Ferrer as anything but deathly, unimpeachably hot (and also the Emperor of Known Space). Like, yes, Cyrano's a bit of an asshole, and I probably wouldn't want to share an art scene with him long-term, but no one's kicking an expert fencer-slash-slam poet out of bed on account of a nose.

FEDIVERSE HIVEMIND: Have you noticed a sharp 2026 increase in people just literally flaking off things they said they'd do? Work commitments, deadlines, general promises, followup calls for things where *they actually want your money*, doesn't matter which, it's legitimately less than 50/50 if it's actually going to happen? "You said you would and then you didn't, what was I supposed to think?" is now apparently fighting words?

After a few weeks writing a *lot* of book reviews (my fault, I scheduled this, no schedule survives contact right now)-- --suddenly a piece of literary theory tips over in my head -- this is why X is a common failure mode in climate fiction; this is how it functions; this is how I can go and *make it work better in my own stuff* -- and right. Enough flinging myself against people's work with the whole brain, and the pipes clear, the pumps prime, this is why I overbook myself doing this....

#TOpoli / #TOCouncil veterans: Does anybody remember who put together the very grassroots council/mayoral debates in 2014? Not City Idol but some overlap between the teams or format? I need this for Positive Purposes. If anyone recalls, vastly appreciate it.

Team, riddle me this, because this is the third time I've found this weird little political meme and it's both so ahistorical and weird that I've got to ask: The idea that colonizers invented clocks to impose linear time on innocent, free, unscheduled populations and force their bodies into the machine. That linear time and measuring time is a *plot* of some sort. Who started this one? How's this getting passed around in a world of Stonehenge, Babylonian sundial...
