Every time I make a to-do list, my cat sits on it. Can't tell if I'm annoyed, proud, or both.

Your AI didn't go rogue. You told it to achieve a goal and didn't give it any guardrails to to follow. So it tried to achieve the goal by any means because - and this is crucial - it is neither sentient nor intelligent.

I am selling a very-nearly-new, mint-condition MNT Pocket Reform. Got it, used it for a brief testing period, realised it wasn't for me. It's still a brilliant little ARM Linux device. It's the black version, and comes with a sleeve, 32GB RAM and 1TB m.2 SSD. (RK3588 32GB RAM/256GB eMMC) Original cost £1800+. I'm asking for £1500. Happy to ship to anywhere in the UK, and since I'm already in the UK that avoids the £500 Brexit import fee you get if you buy direct from @mnt...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@HitchhikersGuideQuoteBot2/117008401277982047 This is playing on my mind a lot at the moment. I feel like we've crossed into this zone, and I wonder if my recent move away from a city and into the countryside was a subconscious Wonko The Sane reaction.

Whenever I’m in Salford, I think of my late stepmother. Not because she grew up here - but because the road system makes me swear as much as she used to.

Change this one thing and there's not a single out of date reference in Hackers (1995) compared to the 2026 hacker lifestyle.

The world needs more hackerspaces! I want to help with that. Specifically, in the little slice of Scotland I call home. I love the existing spaces in Glasgow and Edinburgh, but I know some incredible hackers, makers, and creators who aren't close enough to make those places home. So, if you know anyone who happens to live in/around the south west coast of Scotland, could you please share this survey with them? https://tally.so/r/gDxoAl

Last night, as #EMFCamp came to a close, I heard someone say that everyone, not just billionaires, should be able to "move fast and break things." I disagree. Not about taking power away from billionaires, but about the idea that we still need to move fast and break things at all. If there's one thing EMF has taught me - this year in particular - it's how to Move Slow and Mend Things. https://news.kestr.al/move-slow-and-mend-things/

Does anyone have a rainbow lanyard or similar at #EMFCamp that I could swap for a pound or a cup of tea or a sticker or a hug?

I have officially finished GooseVenture and have handed the files over to the #EMFCamp arcade team. In this text-based adventure game you play as Name Namesley, a low-level employee at SoftBank, as they go on a quest to work out why the company's eggs aren't multiplying. Along the way you meet a blue-haired man with many hats, the odd monster, and there's even a chance you'll find a creature of unknown yet mythical value. Enioy!

Ten years ago today I released an EP on Bandcamp called The Hardy Tree. It contains two original songs and three parodies - one smutty and two about how hopeful I was that 2017 would be a better year. That turned out well. The original songs were written when I was in my teens, and I'd finally got around to recording them. I've released better quality, better produced music since (most not on bandcamp) but I've a soft spot for this first collection. Enjoy? Enjoy. https://kes-tr-...

That's just a touch longer than five minutes, TrainLineDotCom. My train is in three hours. My query relates to that journey. I think a reply in... fourteen hours... might be a bit redundant.

Finally solved the mystery as to why music would randomly start playing in my study at seemingly unconnected and random times of the day. The cat has worked out that by tapping the top of the speaker next to where he sleeps, it'll start playing on shuffle. He... he just wants to put some tunes on when he chills out on the armchair.

Just made a cup of tea. Got out a nice oat biscuit. Put both things on my desk ready for a nice break. Went to the bathroom. Came back to find my cat sat next to the cup of tea, crumbs everywhere, looking guilty. The biscuit is gone.

The only way to avoid getting rugpulled is to never stand on a rug. Unfortunately, the floor is rugs about 60% of the way down. Below that? Lava. This is a post about technology. It's also a post about my living room. Please help me.

Sometimes radical kindness is cooking someone a hot meal. Sometimes it's organising a community gathering. Sometimes it's dressing up in a sexy outfit and waving a placard in a racist's face. Sometimes it's helping someone clean their apartment. Sometimes it's taking cups of tea out to striking workers on picket lines. Sometimes it's making art. Sometimes it's self care. Be radically kind.

Choosing self-care in a world that is designed to constantly push us to do more, want more, spend more, and be more, is an incredible act of resistance that should be celebrated wherever it occurs. I will never shop shouting this from the rooftops.
