  I didn’t have much time today and also at first I tried something more complicated and it was a disaster. (I have 36 regular acrylic markers, 12 pastel, and 12 metallic, and absolutely zero idea how any of them work together.) So my first entry for #inktober2026 is childishly simple.   A short list of things I have appreciated today: 1. For some reason I haven't been able to identify, the circuit breaker for my living room triggered today. Presumably, it protected several computers, game consoles, and other devices from overcurrent in the process. And afterwards… I just flipped it back on, and everything worked. That's pretty dang cool. (1/2)

  I wonder if it's significant that today, a PTO day, the day after two stressful work projects finally resolved, is the first day in weeks I had absolutely no trouble gettting up when my first alarm went off. 🤔 Also, just got a hummingbird visitor at dawn. Not a bad way to start a long weekend. 💚

  Watched the first episode of Widow's Bay this morning before work and now all my brain wants to think about is cozy New England island horror fantasy. 😩 Curious to see if Widow's Bay manages to cut closer to the flavor I'm looking for than Haven did. Haven got _so close_ sometimes, with some genuinely good episodes—the reanimating taxidermy animals come to mind—but over all it just never quite landed for me.

  Yesterday I noticed that one of the heads of a sunflower out on my front stoop was getting raided before the petals had even fallen off. Based on my keen knowledge of the sunflower's natural predators, I developed a theory and I staked out the front door with a camera.   The Pittsburgh Fourth of July celebrations are currently in suspended animation, with the fireworks theoretically set to start in 90 minutes. I get why the city doesn't want to shut it down, but there's now a 50% chance of thunderstorms from 9pm-11pm, so I think it might be time to call it. Heat shut down the Anthrocon furry parade and the Fourth of July parade in DC, too. Feels kinda like Someone's trying to send a message. 👀
