EmojiReact vs. Like w/ content? Hm... FEP-c0e0: Emoji reactions details two ways to federate an Emoji reaction: EmojiReact activity Like with content (as opposed to a regular Like, which has no content) In testing, I noticed that misskey (or at least, the site I was testing with, birb.space) sends the latter. I don't know what sends the former, and if NodeBB were to start federating out EmojiReact, would it be broadly understood? Perhaps I should federate out both at once. cc @silve...

FEP-c0d0: Context Locking This is the main discussion thread for the draft FEP-c0d0: Context Locking Summary Context locking (and its inverse, unlocking) refer to the action whereby a topic no longer accepts new replies. This proposal introduces a locked property on the context object, and a new activity type, Lock, to signal changes to a topic's locked state across the fediverse. Unlocking is expressed with the standard ActivityStreams Undo activity, applied to the original Lock. It bu...

Music player (mp3s) for Android Anyone have suggestions on a good music player on android for mp3 files? I have decent (if proprietary) options for podcasts and streaming music, but I have some mp3s that I'd like to listen to as well. I've tried VLC, and it's kind of meh. I'd like to be able to jump back 5-10 seconds at the press of a button if possible. Bonus points if it integrates with notification tray and android auto ...

@mapache@hachyderm.io you're right! We should get @jesseplusplus@mastodon.social out for the next FediCon (or FediMTL in Montreal!), and bring @johannab@cosocial.ca back.

@evan@cosocial.ca explaining that "the fediverse is quiet" is a bug, not a feature. Good thing we have a solution for it :smirk_cat: AP devs, fixing AP paper cuts one at a time

@mooooooo@qaf.men yes, you can. NodeBB and Piefed are two examples of software that send text/markdown. Misskey sends their own variant of Markdown

httpsig.org is a site with one sole purpose, to advocate for the adoption of RFC 9421 HTTP Signatures. It has a "Libraries" tab that does exactly what it advertises, it lists a bunch of libraries for you to use so you don't have to roll your own. If you want to integrate AP today, but you don't want to roll your own everything, where do you go? Who do you ask? All I know is: Fedify → Typescript (thanks @hongminhee@hollo.social!) FedBOX → Go (thanks @mariusor@metalhead.clu...

@coffeegeek@flipboard.social I've had a lot of success with my V60 pourovers by discarding grounds before the full drawdown has completed. Much less bitterness. As far as I know this isn't standard practice, is it?

The annual Social Web Operations Survey from IFTAS is open! With 50,000 active nodes federating we want the community's voice to be heard. Whether you're running a personal node, a relay, or a larger community, your feedback directly shapes the tools, resources and advocacy IFTAS takes on. The survey takes less than ten minutes to complete: https://tally.so/r/81MW6k @jaz@mastodon.iftas.org is looking for feedback especially from NodeBB instance admins, so if you have a NodeBB forum, he...

It's official, the folks at FOSSY (or maybe it was just @reiver@mastodon.social wearing a FOSSY costume) approved my talk! Herding Cats: Two years of building on AP Lodging booked, ticket secured. Now just need to find a way cross-country to BC :sunglasses:

A good architect’s most important skill isn’t designing systems. It’s knowing which systems not to build. It’s pushing back on complexity. It’s asking “why?” five times until the actual requirement emerges from the aspirational nonsense. It’s telling the CTO that their conference-inspired idea is a terrible fit for the team they actually have. Claude will never do this. It’s trained to be helpful. Helpful means agreeable. Agreeable means you get an attaboy and a Jenga tower that passes for arc...

Started working on bringing ActivityPub Polls to NodeBB :clipboard: First step is adding in separate handling of the Question object. Right now NodeBB treats it as a "Note-like" and renders it like a post  50% of the way there... will need to link it to nodebb-plugin-poll... One complication... the plugin ties votes to users. This data isn't reflected over-the-wire in AP, only the aggregate voter counts are shared  [...] https://github.com/NodeBB/nodebb...

@airwhale@beige.party I was contractor to a team where we had to assign story points based on vibes. The PM took great pains to tell us story points are unitless and did not have parallels to effort, hours, etc. It was... something.

@Shini92@mas.to hah that's fair, different use cases for different people. I suppose many would find it beneficial. For me running a smaller project, this stuff is overkill. I wonder if there's a toggle to turn it off.

@reiver@mastodon.social Sorry for assuming — that seems to be the typical progression of these types of threads... domain names suck → use DIDs instead Would love a third option heh.

@reiver@mastodon.social okay, fair, but I think dids are not a technically feasible solution because it is confusing for now (sorry @silverpill@mitra.social) Maybe I just need to read up on DIDs and just do it... but domain names have the weight and inertia of decades of implementation.

That makes sense. When I implemented the Litepub style relay logic I figured it would immediately work the same way as well (since two-way relay communication uses the Follow-Accept flow as well.) It did not work immediately with NodeBB, have yet to figure out why 😏

Ran across this gem from HN about AI. I'll let it speak for itself: We've got a QA agent that needs to run through, say, 200 markdown files of requirements in a browser session... For the longest time we tried everything to get a prompt like the following working: "Look in this directory at the requirements files. For each requirement file, create a todo list item to determine if the application meets the requirements outlined in that file". In other words: Letting the model...

Unfortunately I was only able to join for the third and last day of FediForum, but the energy was quite strong even then! There were some interesting discussions with @ozoned@btfree.social @reiver@mastodon.social and others (@johannab@cosocial.ca, @j12t@j12t.social, etc) about fediverse payments and growing the open social web — this spanned two session slots, actually! @nutomic@lemmy.ml @rimu@piefed.social Just a heads up that a W3C "Groups" task force was started awhile back and they had their first meeting today. By chance I was reminded and was able to join for the tail end. While I can't speak for everyone in the group, it does sound like there will be some common concepts that would be worth exploring in our various implementations. I started this category/community so you could be better included, even if at a distance :slightly_smiling...
