Drinking at nearly 40 is a total crapshoot. Sometimes I get fully drunk and feel 100% fine. Sometimes I have a single, light beer with dinner and feel terrible the entire next day.

Declaring your art, music, or performances a space without politics is the same as declaring your art empty and pointless. Valueless art is valueless.

I'm pretty unconvinced that "it's the phones", but boy I absolutely think it's hogwash to suggest "it's the Common Core". Dramatically overplays how much change actually happened in classrooms due to the Common Core. A childhood autonomy decline? Maybe. But Common Core? You're showing your weird politics. https://www.theverge.com/policy/995704/peter-gray-restoring-childhood-jonathan-haidt

I thought Elon Musk straight up admitted that Hyperloop was invented just as a way to kill California High Speed Rail-- not replace it, kill it-- because it was never meant to work. Why isn't that the first thing everyone is saying about this new Texas nonsense?

Years ago I would have written a long blog post on the Nikole Hannah-Jones article, but these days that feels like a painful chore. I will say that I've enjoyed watching everyone react and finding within this one story exactly whatever it is they already believed about education.

There's a YouTuber I don't like that much, but do end up watching more than I'd like to admit. His video today, "In 2026, you don't need an amp." And all I can think is, "Yeah, you don't need an amp, because your playing is entirely recording for YouTube and playing in a cover band that does like wedding gigs." Proof that you can rip on guitar but not know how to rock.

People I know, love, and respect think Teams is great. I hate it compared to Slack. Just hate it. Other people I know, love, and respect think Discord is great. I cannot understand why. 1 I do understand it has community moderation tools, but I also find trying to participate in Discord communities impossible and the app just an absolute garbage heap on Mac. ↩

Yeah, AI sucks at a lot of things, but it doesnt suck at taking a query plan and immediately noticing an index miss on a join because of a mismatch in column collation. I have no idea if I would have figured that out with infinite time.

@overcastfm@mastodon.social oh I have to tell you, reddit has been real shitty about Overcast. I hope they're less shitty hearing from you directly, but I'm not sure I have much hope.

@marcoarment@mastodon.social I actually have a friend who has spent the last month writing a new language that more deeply embeds the ideas of MCP into its core. It's fascinating to see him take what he's learned and bring it to a domain-- I think we may actually see lots of micro-languages that are purpose built.

@pratik I've seen so many people into this and ... boy I cannot imagine giving access to my email account like this. Maybe I'm a luddite. Maybe if I were running the LLM locally. Maybe.

Everyone says they hate targeted ads, but I was looking for courses/workshops (in person) to learn more about guitar building and repair, and then tonight Instagram sent me an ad for a four week guitar building class 1.5 miles from my house I would have never known about otherwise.

YouTube just broke their AppleTV app with autoplay on thumbnail hover. Autoplay is annoying enough, but if you set the AppleTV to match the content for refresh rate and HDR-type, this basically means a “flash” every time you navigate a single tile.

"I think one of the undervalued pitches that a prospective Democratic candidate for President in 2028 could make is, “Young enough to have to live with the consequences of my decisions.”" Corey Richardson on Threads https://www.threads.com/@thecoreyrichardson/post/DX0aGjlkbrU?xmt=AQF0u-NlE5ACW_-pb5x-644cdvfTFim0OGZexBK7WmTsYOhPeiwuF6urBXlgnpdlJHeiv1tL&slof=1

I think the worst sign for OpenAI is that people are using the phrase “Claude” as often as “ChatGPT” or “ChattyG” and other variants as a generic “I asked the AI/robot/agent/LLM a thing.” Their first mover advantage on product was meant to make OpenAI and ChatGPT the generic word— like Kleenex or Google. They failed to achieve this.
