Efficiency is not magic. Being efficient doesn't mean something is the best it can be. It actually means something is the worst it can be in most ways so it can be as good as possible at one specific thing, and it takes a lot of work to do that. Minimize most to maximize one. It's like cleaning the dining room by moving all the clutter to every other room in your home. There are no magic bullets, except for shooting yourself in the foot.

Anyone confused about why these AI companies want regulation now should read up on Regulatory Capture. It's how companies corrupt government to do their work for them and protect them from competition and allow them to rip off the public. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulatory_capture

I like to put a note on a profile when I block that person, so today when I saw someone quote a blocked account, I was able to see the reason for blocking them was: "one of those useless fools who thinks using *just* is some kind of crime". Yeah, I had to block someone for coming after me for using the word *just* in a way that infuriated them. I suppose they think the word is forbidden since it can sometimes be used/heard as a microagression. People have some very stupid ideas about...

Anyone know of a good explanation of the difference between an #AutisticMeltdown and a panic attack? I think I can explain it myself, but a short explainer I could share with people would be handy. I wish there were more awareness of what autistic meltdowns are, especially how they aren't the same as tantrums, panic attacks, and maybe a few other things they get mistaken for. I think a lot of unnecessary damage gets inflicted on us because people don't understand what meltdowns are or h...

Jessie Gender did a nearly four hour magnum opus retrospective of #StarfleetAcademy's first season. It's an examination and analysis of the show (and the #StarTrek franchise in general) through the lens of queer politics and culture. I'm only halfway through the video but already I think it's one of Jessie's best videos. Each episode of the show gets its own little essay/chapter, which could easily be a video on its own (and makes it easy to consume in small doses). Worth che...

I think I want to see Robert Picardo wrap up his run as the EMH - he reprograms himself to have a new appearance, because he's in a rut and wants a fresh start. So we'd have the doctor regenerate into a new form played by a new actor....

Ten ways why being #autistic is like being #queer: 1. No one knows exactly why we are like this, but there have been people like us for as long as there have been people. 2. We did not choose to be this way. 3. The majority does not understand what our lives are really like, and probably never will. 4. Being this way isn't the problem. The problem is how people treat us for being this way. 5. We see people, life, relationships, and society differently. 6. Growing up, we knew we were differe...

I can't seem to find apple butter in the stores anymore, so I learned how to make it myself. It took a few tries to tweak the recipe to my taste, but it was worth the effort. (I still see Eden Organic brand apple butter around sometimes, but I will never buy anything from them again after they did a Hobby Lobby copycat lawsuit and made abortion harder to access.) ## Apple Butter ## Ingredients: - 3 lbs apples, not peeled - 1/3 C apple juice - 1/2 C sugar - 1 Tbsp molasses - 1 Tbsp va...

It's only January, but I'm already dreading April and Autism Bewareness Month (AKA #AutismAwarenessMonth AKA #AutismAcceptanceMonth). I think it's gonna be pretty bad this year, since the USA is now taking a hard turn toward ableism and enforced conformity. Usually I have no idea what to focus on for April, and it's just me trying to not get upset at all the inspiration porn and pro-ABA bullshit. But this year I have a specific goal, and it needs some help. Last...

I tried to watch the CA Gov debate, but I shut it off. It was just too awful. CBS is no longer a respectable news organization. The "we're owned by pro-fash Republicans" vibe is strong, and the moderators frame everything in as anti-Democratic a way as possible, and they lost control of things pretty quickly. The first question from a student began with him chiding the candidates, "Wow, that was a mess up there." How do we fix our culture so that we c...

I think I've figured out why there are so many more British youtubers with autism channels than Americans. They have public healthcare, so these folks can afford to live off of youtube earnings. Free, universal healthcare would make so many things possible. It's hard to imagine what we could accomplish as a society if we just took care of people.

I am literally old enough to remember when Dubya (Bush-43) pushed for his faith-based initiatives as a way to normalize side-stepping the First Amendment and get government in bed with Christian organizations. Democrats fought against it, but not hard enough, so we ended up with our tax dollars going to religious organizations that are free to discriminate against minorities because they claim their religion requires it. And yet now when Trump cancels funding for a Catholic charity that helps im...

This video is titled "You are being misled about renewable energy technology," but as one comment said it could be called "Technology Connections talks about solar then goes nuclear". TLDR: An hour infodump on the mathematical inevitability of solar power followed by a 30 minute crie de coeur of Hbomberguy-spitting-facts levels of incandescent rage against the fascism machine. If you don't understand how painful it can be for #ActuallyAutistic folk to listen to allistic people talk about us and over us while excluding us from the conversation... Think about what it's like for minorities when white people talk about racial issues, for women when men talk about women's issues, or for queer folk when straight people talk about queer issues. There are plenty of autistic people around to include in the conversation. Stop excluding us from discussion...

It's 2026 and we now understand that neurodiversity is a thing, so maybe stop making psychological generalizations as if all humans naturally think the same way.
