Let me repeat the same thing over, and over again. People are tired of paying for the broken distribution model. It doesn't work. Destroying upstream resources for the sake of maintaining unsustainable software isn't going to work. https://pointieststick.com/2026/07/19/whos-responsible-for-bug-reports-on-old-software-versions/

Today you learned that Gradia has OCR support, take a picture, get text. Find it in #bluefin by hitting your screenshot button. If you hit it and you don't get gradia then I'm sorry that your linux distribution doesn't love you as much as we do. #flathub #gnome https://flathub.org/en/apps/be.alexandervanhee.gradia

Digital Sovereignty isn't just for nations! Now that the desktop has reached The Final Shape we turn attention to our homelabs. Been making great progress on this, we're at v .8. This one is boring. Knuckle just installs flatcar. But we want cloud native magic so we're building "Bluefin Server" but not sure on the name. And it'll run flatcar, and in there your magical bootc factory runs and your bluebuild just worked ootb. And the Fedora one...

RE: https://floss.social/@omgubuntu/116658723808375699 Smart move by Canonical. They've got an entire development platform and store to distribute it with. And I'm sure they'll be more than happy to take agent assisted Flutter code into their store.

I think tech archaelogists will look back at #linux distributions and think ... "Why did they call them distributions? They're doing the worst job out of anybody at distributing software." Come to my talk for more! https://conf.linuxappsummit.org/event/9/contributions/233/

What happens when you spend 30 years telling app developers that they suck at distribution and packaging? They bail. Oh, and a 4% market share. https://conf.linuxappsummit.org/event/9/contributions/233/

What do we do with all our bugs? We promised people we're good at this but ends up some dude named Sisyphus already figured it out. There's a poster at the entrance of this coal mine of toil that says: "We add value." I totally believe that! #gnome #linux https://conf.linuxappsummit.org/event/9/contributions/233/

Check it out man. Millions of application developers in the world. Millions. They can easily publish on any platform except the #linux desktop. Yeah the way it works is only a handful of people know this super complicated process of uncompressing a tarball from a web server and splatting it on a disk. No you can't do it yourself you have to get permission. You will choose to do it yourself. If you love enshittification do we have a model for you, the users give you root to their compu...

I don't wanna scare any app developers from publishing on #linux of course. The way it works is they'll ship a 5 year old version of the thing and then tell the users that breaking your software is a refined skill. You probably don't want to look to see how much money some orgs are purposely siphoning away from application developers. https://conf.linuxappsummit.org/event/9/contributions/233/

"Sir the #linux users are rioting again, they hate electron and want a native app." "The people that always cost us money? Fine, I guess I'd rather just shut them up, what platform stack to they want?" "Oh they purposely don't have one. They're quite proud of that apparently." "What's for lunch?" https://conf.linuxappsummit.org/event/9/contributions/233/

If my job was to distribute software and after thirty years all I have is 4% success rate you would fire me. It's long past due to let the experts who make the software ship the stuff. Everyone else in #linux has figured this out except the Linux desktop. https://conf.linuxappsummit.org/event/9/contributions/233/

In kubernetes someone named "The Harbringer of Deprecation" keeps the ecosystem healthy. If you stay on a deprecated piece of kit like nginx-ingress it's on YOU to pay for the fork, spend super expensive developer time, or pay an organization to sell your tech debt back to you. (As a service!) We spend an inordinate amount of time educating users on the importance of keeping their platforms up to date - you have no choice at this scale. And even with this known policy...

Not that I'm keeping score (I totally am) but I think #Aurora #linux is proof that getting modern infrastructure people involved in the desktop is a good idea. Exhibit A: Aurora exists. They made that. People dig it. And even if you don't dig it usually it's a payload decision (you don't like Bazaar or whatever) and not an infrastructure one. Exhibit B: It has a following and it's bringing more people into KDE. And my evidence there is the Aurora team...

Been working on this for #bluefin - agents are great at diagnosing PC issues - Bluefin has an option to use goose and linux-mcp-server to troubleshoot and fix problems on your machine. It's been great! https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/the-future-of-ai-in-ubuntu/81130 #linux #ubuntu

I am totally melting this strix halo. I'm using this tool to run a memory system locally. I can even send the local model to do stuff as a subagent. And then someday, completely local. That makes sense to me, this is just the AI version of "hybrid cloud". The other workload maxing the CPU cores is building #gnomeos and #bluefin dakota, which I do all locally via this setup - test NUC reboots. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cApfuO4WG9g Hey @kyle greg k-h was explaini...
