Another burn, another post trying to convince people on Facebook that Mastodon is the most burnery of socials 🤣 (I don't expect it to succeed. Network effect is powerful. But still, I try.) #burningMan #regionalBurn

The local #MeshCore has been invaded by bigots, bible quoting bots on public channels, and unwelcome internet bridges to far off places that are just clogging up our airwaves. It’s so annoying, and while I can block the worst of them in my app, they’re still making it harder to get messages out for everyone. Very much hope future repeater releases have ways to deal with bad actors.

OK, this is pretty cool! Probably about 4-5 hours of recipe work today, and I have: - My home recipes (76 of them) in #Obsidian, written in #cookLang format and the community plugin - A script that generates a PDF cookbook of them - My old #LinuxMint thinkpad with a cookCLI local server - This means anyone on my wifi can browse machinename.local:9080 and use the recipes (https://cooklang.org/cli/commands/server/) - It's really easy to browse and search to find, say, all recipes that use c...

#Bookstodon, I need your help! What is your absolute favorite, not-problematic, public domain detective story? I have a new jailbroken kindle to go out into the little library and want it to be a little jewel box of @gutenberg_org mystery books. Edit: Particular preference for non-white, non-straight, non-male authors. Natch. :-) Please boost! #books #fedihelp

It’s here, I’m excited, and I’m awash in recipes using miso. Wherever to start?!

Just finished Long Story Short, which was a very charming comedic series that I’d never heard of.

I've now jailbroken a Kindle paperwhite successfully. Only took me an hour so I could get my own screensaver on it. 🙃 Sadly, my favorite kindle 4's screen was damaged in a recent trip and my old paperwhite's screen has a small crack on it as well. And I was exhausted and not looking carefully when I tried to rebuy a kindle 4 with buttons on ebay and instead got a first gen kindle touch. 🤦‍♀️ Fortunately, kindles are only $20-40 on ebay. Unfortunately, I don't re...

It's a random thing, but I'm feeling really happy about having my small business give an annual donation to a couple of open source projects it depends on. Huge shout out and thanks to all these for being so useful and solid that I *can* depend on them: - OBS Studio (@OBSProject), used basically daily to get local videos of sessions for supervision and study - LibreOffice (@libreoffice), used weekly or a few times a month - Linux Mint (@linuxmint) which is my backup machi...

My #WeeFreeCommunityLibrary talk is now up on YouTube! It talks about how I used #InternetInABox to create a little local library in my neighborhood. It's a quick little snack of a talk at only ~20 minutes long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqAUO_HZYwU (Special thanks to Bsides Seattle for recording and putting these up as a perk of being a speaker. #BsidesSeattle #BSidesSeattle2026 )

An absolutely fascinating writeup about Advil (ibuprofen), Tylenol (acetaminophen, paracetamol), and which painkiller is better and why. With a brief sidebar ode to past FDA science: https://asteriskmag.com/issues/14/the-mystery-in-the-medicine-cabinet

Women are 73% more likely to be severely injured in a car crash, and 17% more likely to die than men. All because car companies have been resisting testing for women since forever. I’m not surprised on several levels. As I’ve gotten older and have larger breasts, seatbelts basically are impossible to put at the right spot on me anymore. And that’s just one example. Apparently there’s a current She Drives act in the senate that’s aimed at fixing this, which could use support. NYT gift article...

If you're in tech — or any fast-moving industry — and quietly wondering if you're good enough, or just exhausted and not sure why, you're not alone. I've been there too. My Conquering #ImposterSyndrome and #Burnout syndrome class is March 13th, 9am-12pm PT. Built from tech workers' experiences, the tools translate across industries. It's practical by design: you'll try techniques during the session, see that others are dealing with the sam...
