Watching Ousterhout's 1hr video on CS 190 and A Philosophy of Software Design captures something that has felt missing in the field: teaching sensibility through project based work and criticism. It's the studio class from Richard Gabriel's vision of a Master of Fine Arts degree in Software. #softwareengineering

Not quite the last rose of the late summer flush, but the last of the pink blooms with a rose-citrus scent.

Public art at Seattle Fire Department Station 9: https://seattlearts.emuseum.com/objects/2839/nine-lives "Nine Lives", a black cat ever ready to rescue those in its district from fire, a riff on the Eveready Batteries 9-Lives cat. Under the cat is ANOTHER public artwork, the dot codes punched out by the historic block by block fire alarms, run by clockwork-driven telegraph signals. When the alarm is pulled, the spring unwinds, and the dot code is sent to the fire station.

Appreciating the online craft group. I pinned, re-pinned, and re-pinned the headband for the Newsboy Cap project while we talked birds and collage and accessibility accommodations in art, and how everyone who knits has a different technique, even aside from the obvious "which cast-on do you use?"

Planted out the tomato seedlings into their outdoor containers after dark. Air and soil very warm still.

The tiling pattern in the new sidewalk seems to art more than structure, the brushed concrete squares matching the pebbled tiles of the older sidewalk. Narrower runs of the new pavement along expanded tree wells are brushed but not tile-patterned.

Caw caw caw caw caw! Pre-dawn chorus. I suspect this crow may be part of a nesting pair, to be out in a neighborhood so early. #seattlecrows
