I Write Like

iwritelike@mastodon.social

My name's Alexandra. I love books, I write stories: magical realism, surrealism, literary fiction.
IWL is a Markdown text editor I help build, and highly recommend as an author. It's secure. It's in your browser.
I'm a fan of outdoors; often in the mountains or the sea, where you just need to tilt your head a certain way to start noticing magic.

#markdown #writing #WritersofMastodon <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ShortStories" class="mention hashtag

I keep forgetting to show this photo. This is where Mira from my story lived. https://saraf.iwl.pub/p/mira-is-going-to-the-sea/ "She was turning into a fish, she said. This had been going on for days." #PhotoMonday #storytime #surreal #mountains #shortstory

#WordWeavers 28th Jul 2026. If you couldn't write, how would you tell your stories? With photos.

What if people grow old not because of how many loops the planet has made around the sun and how many times it has spun on its own axis, but because of all the accumulated things that they now miss and grieve? #justthinking #life #people

RE: https://mastodon.social/@iwritelike/116499099116283001 This has been fun. Whenever someone in real life saw me using dark mode they were surprised so I assumed people don't really use it much. #poll #darkmode

I'll never get tired of this feeling when a language you've been studying sprouts just enough for you to start understanding texts or videos. It feels like a super-power, like being able to walk through walls or fly. #language #culture #languagelearning

Did people always have so many opinions on how others should live, love, read, write, work, relax or is it the internet that amplified a human trait through massive exposure to so many various things? #justthinking #people #humanity #socialmedia #internet #life

I used to be so annoyed by that "show, don't tell" advice. Writing fiction is called "storytelling" for a reason! There's no showing without telling. Then I discovered that Chekhov never said that. What he said was: "In descriptions of nature one must seize on small details, grouping them so that when the reader closes their eyes they get a picture." Now, this makes so much more sense. #writingCommunity #literature #WritingT...

I'm trying to figure out whether those creators who do write but don't code use Markdown. I feel like Markdown is still very niche but my perception might be distorted. You'd help a lot if you voted: #Markdown #WritingCommunity #poll

I'm Fediverse dizzy at the moment, but in a fun way. I have two separate accounts: this one, and the pixelfed one. I use the pixelfed one from its interface. I just discovered this account in its mastodon form. It has its own separate count of boosts. Also, I finally see where the photos of others that I reposted from pixelfed go. They are not found anywhere on my pixelfed feed, but here they all are, in their mastodon representation. Are you now as dizzy as I am? #Fediverse #pixelfed #m...

This article states that an algorithm in social media is not an inherently bad force. It can be tweaked and honed to benefit people. Well, d'oh! Only the tweaking would require a certain set of values that the "tweakers" don't seem to have. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11373151 #Socialmedia #algorithm #technology #science #humanity #digital

I hadn't even realized how much I missed a good old photo feed until I visited pixelfed. It's like stepping out into nature where the peace in the air takes away the pain you didn't know you had. #pixelfed #photography #socialmedia #Fediverse

I love reading longer posts. I've been manually going through Mastodon accounts, and clicking blog links. I'm looking for short form or serialized fiction, but I'm just generally interested in everything well written. I've found some blogs, and I'm sure I'll find more, but I'll also be thankful for any recommendations. #indieauthor #WritingCommunity #blog #fiction #essay #creativewriting #newhere

Apparently, Mastodon notifies via email of any mention by default. Do people check their email to see whether someone mentioned them on Mastodon? #Mastodon
