Hi, I'm new to Pixelfed! #introduction My Mastodon is not new, but my Pixelfed is! Keep in touch by following @independentpen@gram.social 😸 I'm making the move from Insta to Gram because I cannot with Insta, and I am at home here on Mastodon. So I decided it is time to bring my images to the fediverse. Hooray! At gram.social I will be posting pics of my handmade, nondigital art (pointing to my Patreon, a combo of free, public and paywalled content) and photos from my work as an anthr...

My fifth grader is going through a wringer, which will surely only increase next year, sixth grade, new school. He's undiagnosed-probably-definitely-autistic with a big tender heart. And certain kids (who used to be friends) are doing little things that cut him to the bone, probably(?) because they know they can get a rise out of him. I know what I did to survive school at his age, but I don't know my strategies were best. How do you advise your kid so as to minimize normie-inflicted tr...

@dan@discuss.systems @sharon@discuss.systems @amanda@discuss.systems You know what's funny, I was once hired by a lawyer to "fix" the fact that he didn't have a Wikipedia page (while his two business partners did). This is how I became a Wikipedia editor. After researching his "issue" and Wikipedia's editorial rules I came to the conclusion that he ... basically wasn't important enough. Which I then had to tell him. I love that Cheeto has surpassed this man.

Every time #AI comes up in my classrooms I am relieved to hear the #students talk about it with nuance, restraint and concern. One student today said she's excited about some of the things it can do, yet thinks the mass rollout of #LLMs is reckless. When I said I am also impressed by some of what it can do she cut in to say, "But if you express approval for some of it, people think you approve of all of it." 🏆🏆🏆

I did a read-through of a novel manuscript that I completed a while back (#amQuerying). It's good to occasionally pick up something you've written and read it fresh, as a reader. It's *really* good to do that and think, damn this is a good ride #writingCommunity

@andrewstroehlein "The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. 1/2
