I absolutely love how the XZ Utils backdoor, which almost gave some unknown state actor unlimited root access to hundreds of millions of servers, and was the result of an unpaid volunteer being burnt out enough to give access to a seemingly helpful new dev, resulted in absolutely zero investment from the US government into funding critical open source development. Very functional and reliable society we’ve built here.

The cron job in Port87 is finally working! Once I push it up to the prod servers, those emails in your trash and spam folders from two years ago that “will be deleted after 60 days” will finally actually be deleted. Two years is _technically_ after 60 days.

The Padres have been robbed before, but that really takes the cake. Game winning home run called out because it bounced off the _ceiling_ of your dumb ass stadium.

One of the hardest things in UI design is making it look good on both a 32 inch screen and a 4 inch screen.

Hey Amazon, I don’t ever want your AI to pop up. Not when I search for something, not when I’m looking at a product, not when I’m looking through reviews, not ever. Literally never. Just be a god damned store.

This is not a good ad. This makes me despise your company. I hope your company goes bankrupt.

The reason people liked AI in old movies and TV shows is that the AI was written by a human. The writers of that media were real people. Something that is completely lost on AI bros.

Gmail doesn’t accept email from my home server’s disk monitoring software, because it’s not set up to be a good email server (DKIM, SPF, etc). I just finished a feature in https://Port87.com where you can turn off all authentication requirements for a label so that it will accept basically any email from anything. Problem solved.

We can’t provide public housing for the homeless, because that will never work. Instead, we should criminalize being homeless and force them into privatized prisons with 24/7 armed guards and staff, medical and food provided, and no access to participate in the economy, all paid for by the taxpayers. That’ll solve the problem, because then people won’t want to be homeless anymore. (This is what republicans actually think.)

In response to Taco Bell reportedly giving people explosive diarrhea, Del Taco has assured its customers that they will only give you regular diarrhea.

“30 minutes to charge! No way I’d ever get an EV!” “I know right. Crazy. Quick question, how long would you wait in line for gas that was $1.50 a gallon?” “Oh, probably an hour. Gas is so expensive right now.”

Not Del fucking Taco throwing shade at Taco Bell? Del Taco is the place you go if you have literally no other options. They’re barely better than eating the grass from their lawn.

I bought an electric van. My wife and I now both drive EVs. On a related note. Is anyone in socal interested in a 2007 Tacoma? It gets 16.5 miles per gallon.

@Techmeme@techhub.social Ah yes, the “please let us teach you to become reliant on our product before we jack up the price” program.

It's way too fun going against all professional medical advice, and the explicit warning on the box, and shoving a q-tip deep, deep into the ear canal.

First they didn’t come for the wage thieves, but don’t worry, I voted. Then they didn’t come for the frauds, but don’t worry, I voted. Then they didn’t come for the violent seditionists, but don’t worry, I voted. Then they didn’t come for the pedophiles, but don’t worry, I voted. Then they didn’t come for the fascist paramilitary police at the polling stations, and I could no longer vote.
