Ever heard about WebScript? It was an interpreted, Mini-#ObjC that came w/ #WebObjects. IIRC using WO w/ WebScript was free, building apps w/ ObjC required the $$$$ expensive license. WebScript even had a "modern syntax" (I think this must be ~1998?) w/o the brackets (but `function doIt() { }` style). https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/LegacyTechnologies/WebObjects/WebObjects_3.1/PDF/DEVGUIDE/SCRIPT.PDF

LLM's feel a little like #CorelDraw to me, if someone remembers that. It felt awesome for a while. Because coming with a ~20000 clipart library it enabled non-designers to produce flyers that felt good-looking. But it didn't take that long until you could easily tell apart those from stuff being done by real designers / people w/ a clue. They just looked too obviously CorelDraw. LLM's are somewhat similar, you get a huge lib of code to cherry pick from. It won't innovate on its o...

People are wondering how the iPhone foldable would work, API/screen wise. Do you open separate scenes for the screens? With our fancy “declarative UI” framework you could also build things where your 3-part foldable is actually: [Sidebar] | [. Content ] | [ Inspector] (to close, you'd put the sidebar/inspector on top of the content and the back becomes the regular combined thing) Kinda like the iDrawerMac, but for reals. Might be less crazy than it sound...

I don’t know a single app in the current „Apple Design Award winners“ email. But i suppose that’s the idea, get to know new apps by featuring them. Recognizing apps that people actually use is a different thing.

You can't make this up, we have *two* RFC'ed standards for JSON calendar data (and address data): - RFC 7265: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7265 (standards people from various companies) - RFC 8984: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc8984 (FastMail) It's seems clear that someone just didn't like the format of the other. So now we have two. For the same freaking thing. Yes, I read 1.1, all 4 points seem like utter nonsense to me. Yes calendars are...

Since I just walked over it again, on non-Darwin platforms the MainActor does NOT necessarily run on the main thread. I think it's just a regular global actor there that can run on any thread. Actually I wonder how to fix this. Could you do an own MyMain actor w/ an executor that uses the GCD main queue? If so, why doesn't Swift do this in the first place?

People often complain about some SwiftUI bugs, lack of feature XYZ and such. But I think they often miss the structurally deep / conceptual issues. Like how many instance methods does `View` have? Something like 500+?

Apple has given up on the Pro Display XDR. Apparently the large high res display starting at $5000 just didn’t end up being a hit https://www.macrumors.com/2026/03/03/apple-discontinues-pro-display-xdr/

I think people who use LLM's to build FOSS projects essentially just train the LLM's. Like say you build an XML parser for Swift using LLM's. That's cool and a legitimate target for doing LLM's since you have a comprehensive spec to test against. But what's really happening here is that you let the LLM build something for you, and then (if you are a responsible person) you do a deep review of it before you release it. You'll train it to do...
