Good to see The Star making the obvious but vital point about Carney's sell-off of airports. (Maybe discouraging flying is part of a completely covert green agenda, which I would support, but I doubt it.) https://www.thestar.com/opinion/editorials/privatizing-airports-carney-still-needs-to-make-the-case-canadians-won-t-suffer/article_a4aa426f-95a3-4419-a552-bd2f46c15dcd.html

This bit from a Hunter Biden post is so American: "And a dividend paid to every American from the AI economy, because these machines were built on the whole of human inheritance. That inheritance belongs to all of us, and not just to the handful of men playing God with our very existence." The whole of human inheritance does not belong to the US alone.

I'm kind of stuck on the idea of people being sent out to rake 552 million hectares of boreal forest. And where would they put all the dry material they'd raked?

All while complaining about foreign election interference! That Trump has long been a Russian asset has been painfully obvious for years — except, of course, to most Americans and most European leaders. @randahl@mastodon.social

RE: https://mastodon.social/@KraftTea/116909645563843114 It won’t just be the Russians dealing with this. But it would be nice if they blamed the right person.

From a description of Lindsay Graham but applicable to so many others: “[He] has a real draw to power — but he’s found it unattainable on his own merits.”

RE: https://mstdn.social/@kibcol1049/116882961320339708 Trump is clearly allied with Putin. He'd be quite happy to divide the world into 2 or 3 regions of super-power control and leave Europe to deal with Russia itself. US annexation of Greenland would effectively leave Canada surrounded by the US on 3 sides (with Russia over the top). To be clear: annexing Canada next is the quiet part of Trump's Greenland ambition, with Mexico to follow. He wants the whole continent.

In my University-Rosedale riding there's a byelection to replace Chrystia Freeland, and the NDP is utterly hopeless. Search for University-Rosedale NDP and their website features only their provincial representative and makes no mention of their federal candidate, Serena Purdy, who has a website under her name alone. It at least lists her policies, unlike the provincial one which only asks for donations and volunteers. Neither even link to either national or provincial party websites.

RE: https://mas.to/@dmacphee/116137125830907011 "Supporters of separatism say there will be no taxes and a booming oil industry without Ottawa’s meddling." This fantasy precedes the recent rise of the separatists but has been prevalent for decades. Politicians really should do more to squelch it. Danielle Smith's self-centred opportunism must not be allowed to fracture the country.

@benroyce@mastodon.social If you look through mainstream news photo annuals from WWII to the 1970s, or Life magazine, it’s astonishing how much gore they printed. Our contemporary media has protected society from the real violence of everyday life as well as war. Instead, we have a cartoon or video game understanding of what real, violence entails.

Among the many flaws of GDP is that, like capitalism in general, it fails to fully account for "externalities." And it certainly can't measure fairness or sustainability. @EricLawton@kolektiva.social

All those lands were formerly rail and warehouse lands, as can be seen in this nifty before & after series of aerial shots.
