    Time to start the background check process for the new job. Never raised any flags back in the day when something /might/ have come up, but there&amp;#39;s always something in the back of my head that wonders... &amp;lt;/anxiety&amp;gt;

    Oh yay, nothing like having to complete a drug test to qualify for employment, with the appointment window at the most convenient location being /this/ close to the deadline to get it done. So scrambling to find one that takes walk-ins or an appointment with enough leeway to make other arrangements if that falls though. Also, &amp;lt;/anxiety&amp;gt; and I can&amp;#39;t even take a Xanax because drug test.

    I just accepted a job offer for a fully remote position that will eventually require a visit to corporate HQ, which is located ~90 minutes from where I grew up. It&#39;s tempting to plan some extra time to stop by the old digs but I&#39;m estranged (my choice) so don&#39;t really want to see what&#39;s left of the family who raised me.     So begins my first day of actual unemployment since [checks] January 2008. I&amp;#39;m spending the day catching up on transfer of health insurance benefits (thanks a bunch, US &amp;quot;health care system&amp;quot;). I told myself when I started this position that I wanted it to be my last tech job. I still mostly feel that way but I was hoping it would have lasted a bit longer.
