The thing about the "Iran hacks UK power station" story is that the details are sparse and the public attribution seemingly weak. It's not like we haven't gone through years of UK hacks being blamed on nation states and then later revealed to have been a teenager in Cardiff or whatever.

The thing about denying a UK visa for Hasan Piker is that, unless a clear explanation is given otherwise, it gives a strong impression that criticism of the Israeli government is prohibited.

UKHSA Dashboard has added graphs for 8 years of antibiotic use, and for all of the publicity regarding antibiotic resistance, we're not really seeing a downturn in use. https://ukhsa-dashboard.data.gov.uk/antimicrobial-consumption/total-antibiotic-use

How much do these companies spend on tokens just to have their LLM workers attend meetings?

Whenever I visit YouTube, the front page is all "American reacts to mundane British things", because I haven't been able to train myself not to click on thumbnails of shocked faces accompanied by text like "ELTON JOHN IS BRITISH?!", "RUGBY PLAYERS DON'T WEAR HELMETS?!"

GOV.UK Pay is replacing Stripe with Dutch fintech Adyen. I assume they're going to be supporting the new Open Banking APIs in the near future. https://gds.blog.gov.uk/2026/06/02/building-for-the-future-making-change-simple-on-gov-uk-pay/

I used the term "air gap" with someone who grew up with ubiquitous wifi, and had to explain that the term made more sense when devices needed a network cable.

Heard a news report this morning about water companies that used “600 hours of sewage” as an amount. That’s not really meaningful as an amount (beyond the contextual suggestion that it’s terrible), and would actually need some degree of explanation - which of course the news doesn’t provide.

"Net Zero" as an industry, rather than a political topic, is worth £100b to the UK economy. All UK commercial fishing is barely £1b (before preparation). https://publish.cbi.org.uk/articles/net-gains-the-uks-net-zero-economy-in-2025/

It's funny that a lot of people are panicking about AI being able to discover software vulnerabilities, but also relaxed about AI introducing vulnerabilities? I guess if you spend enough tokens it'll balance itself out.
