I cannot wait to watch Sting of Death (1966) tonight with the #monsterdon crew. This was one of the rare titles that my local video shop didn't have on hand for me to rent, so it's the steaming version for me instead! Uhhh I did mean "streaming" there but I think the autocorrupt adjective might turn out to be apt. TUNE IN AND WE SHALL FIND OUT TOGETHER

All right, #monsterdon, we need to get this sorted out sooner rather than later Boost for reach, please. When nine hundred monsterdonians crack the same joke within 30s of each other, is the line:

Woke up to a headache and rain this morning, so it turned into a household chores kind of day. Took out all the trash and recycling, cleaned out the fridge a bit, replaced a troublesome lightbulb, migrated to a new phone, took down and replaced some curtains _long_ past their best-before date, tidied up a bit. The the weather let up in the evening so we walked up the street to Atomic 10 for (decent) cocktails and (excellent) tacos. Missed #monsterdon, but it was a good evening together.

Happy #sysadminDay to all sysadmins, sysops, site reliability engineers, devops people, admins, members of the wheel group, holders of root, and people with a flashlight/screwdriver/multimeter in your desk-call pouch. It may not be a glamorous calling, but here's the thing: setting up and running the machine so others need not worry about it; helping people get their work done; flattening the learning curve and offering guidance; and diminishing the sting of errors? It matters. Be proud....

Carve two minutes and forty eight seconds out of your evening to go listen to this track: https://theepoxies.bandcamp.com/track/synthesized (You'll want the album, but that's the track you'll remember in twenty years and dust off the CD to listen to again)

There was an active shooter at the Salsa on St Clair festival a couple of blocks west of us. We're home safe. https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/article/toronto-police-provide-an-update-on-the-shooting-at-salsa-on-st-clair-that-left-2-dead-live-updates-here/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/livestory/toronto-shooting-st-clair-9.7267199 The shooter(s) have not been apprehended. The festivalgoers have not left the area yet; when we got home ~15 minutes ago we saw the Toronto police on horseback...

(Missed tonight because Katie and I are both pretty strongly against giant spiders. Huge psychic murderous crabs though? Totally fine with those.) #Toronto

You know that 4GB AI model that Google Chrome silently installs on your machine? Keep in mind that the Chrome team decided to do that because *they thought it was a good idea*. If user outrage is sufficient to cause that decision to be rolled back, they'll still push the same AI features, only hosted remotely instead of locally. If you're going to trust software from a development team somewhere, you are making a decision to trust their processes and to accept their pressures....

Hey #Ontario folks, just a note: if we're sticking to the provincially recommended six month schedule, you'll want to get a COVID-19 refresh now-ish so that your next shot can land in time to maximize your protection during the winter holiday season. Plan ahead; help keep your friends and family healthy and safe by controlling what risk factors you can.

I wish I could convince more people writing bash scripts¹ to start with a getopts block, then add a $usage variable above getopts that's printed in response to -h/--help, then a block of default variables & values above that which can be included in the help text, then a `set -o nounset -o pipefail -o errexit`² above that, then a function to trap ONEXIT that cleans up temp files & dirs. 1/2 ¹: yes, bash, the vast majority interpreter; though I respect sh and love ksh93...

There is a lot more chatter in my feed today about MNT Reform machines than about the new laptops from the company funding projects run by publicly vocal racists And here's the thing: you can have a feed like this too! It's simple: unfollow people who are OK with funding racists, and spend some of your limited time and energy having compassionate but firmly honest conversations with friends who might care but not yet know about how Framework directs their funds. Also go follow...
