<p>Debian Developer, GIS geek, FLOSS activist. Researcher and data scientist.</p><p>I&#39;m universally known as Frankie, a long-time Debian Developer and FLOSS activist. I found my way into the free/open-source world in the mid-90s, thanks to my job as a researcher and the experiences after my degree in Computer Science. Just discovered the website of my old mate Paolo Cavallini, who has been sailing somewhere in the Pacific for a couple of years. It takes no time at all to go from GIS to the sea. https://www.libresailing.eu/en/ I&amp;#39;m largely envious... #sea #sail #free #pacific #boat

RE: https://social.growyourown.services/@homegrown/117354728907764529 This directly results from the walled-garden approach in digital services. Escaping from that is not a right; it is a duty.

The latest Debian #kernel update fixed 1312 #security-related issues, including information leaks. It seems to me that this number is due only to applying (at cost) AI tool detection, and if the same were applied to any other OS, the result would be the same. How many tons of still-unknown issues are spread across BSD, macOS, and Windows kernels? https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-announce/2026/msg00441.html

So, even the 38th attempt at a peace agreement has failed. This is not a war, it is a grotesque pièce of the theater of. absurd. Beckett, Ionesco, or Pinter would be proud. #war

Almost there, maybe one of the most important improvements in the WWW standards. QUERY for read-only HTTP calls. https://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc10008/ #rfc #http #standards #webstandards

It is not trivial understanding if/how this information is relevant. Most users currently navigate by using dynamic IPs and often CGNAT, so that in practice, it is tracked the network (and country) a user belongs to, IFF they are not using a VPN/proxy. Such information is already spread among millions of server logs in any case, often linked to specific credentials and IDs. https://cambridgeanalytica.org/surveillance-privacy/google-ip-tracking-uk-eu-august-2026-51120/ #google #tracking #pro...

In Azzorre la benzina costa più o meno quanto in Puglia. Maremma maiala, in mezzo all&amp;#39;oceano Atlantico, su un&amp;#39;isola, in the middle of nowhere. 😠

Ok, I love this man. I said it. https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2026/07/linux-creator-linus-torvalds-puts-foot-down-on-anti-ai-comments/

So, #ClimateChange does not exist. Try explaining that concept to mountain lakes... They seem not to understand and are trying to disappear anyway.

@sjn@chaos.social The use of AI is not relevant for quality. One produces good or bad products with or without AI use. It is definitely dependent on the human side, whether or not her/his homework is done. Let me say that I saw shitty code produced by humans and AI, as well as good enough code.

&amp;quot; This is what it looks like when an OEM stops treating Linux support as an afterthought and starts treating it as engineering. Not a checkbox on a spec sheet. Not a “works with Linux” footnote. Actual kernel work, actual upstream contributions, actual collaboration with the people building the tools developers use every day and helping the Linux community as a whole.&amp;quot; Kudos to #Dell folks and well done https://www.dell.com/en-us/blog/year-of-the-linux-laptop-omarchy-on-xps/...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@nixCraft/116408763116802689 Even a better way to targetize users of the Big ones and possibly facilitate large groups of abusers, thanks to almost certain leaking of data. What&amp;#39;s better to abuse kids than apparently defend them?
