If I had to recommend two albums to progress your jazz odyssey, I’d say Brilliant Corners by Thelonius Monk and The Bridge by Sonny Rollins.   I watched Sirāt last night. I feel like it’s a story that will stay with me for a long time. Some of the reviews (pro and amateur) have been pretty scathing, and I totally see their points. I wonder if the upsetting of expectation isn’t the whole point of the film.
