I thought I had the best time at the largest vintage computing event in the world. But then someone rolled up with a cesium atomic clock, and I was no longer sure... My video covering VCF Midwest is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oW-Hp8-DAB0 #vcfmw

My Spectrum Business Internet connection goes down weekly. I finally set OPNsense up so I can swap to a borrowed cell backup connection. Blog post here: https://jeffgeerling.com/blog/2026/opnsense-backup-internet-gateway/ But if you have backup 5G Internet, what do you use? (Midwest US)

I found the cheapest way to add 25 Gbps networking to a Mac. Some 3D printing required... Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_--JjauL19A

Finally! Proxmox VE officially supports Arm. At least the more server-grade Arm platforms. I tested it on my Ampere Altra Max 128-core workstation, and it runs there (though I did hit a couple hiccups). See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg263L1W97w

Today I test the $699 Dell XPS 13, and see how it compares to the MacBook Neo. I didn't realize it would have a more efficient CPU, upgradeable storage, or run Linux as well as it did... It's not flawless, but it's a good budget laptop. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2B7oI0FYqo

The Pi 5 16GB was never a good deal. But at $300+, it's just... don't buy it. Luckily, Pi 4s still start at $35 and Pi 5s at $45. And the 4GB Pi 400 is somehow $50 at Micro Center. Video with more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53AkaYvw63U

I got to test a Pixel Pump 2 (by Robins Tools) for my 2nd SMD PCB. I just used it for manual pick 'n place; it's a solid little bit of kit if you do this stuff often. Video here: https://youtube.com/watch?v=8WzAy72yCJA Thanks to @idlehandsdev for putting me in touch!

A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure. So now I have three GNSS PPS watches. And I can measure UTC to within 20-40ns. Just need my entire forearm. Not done yet: portable rubidium atomic clock for holdover.

From my research, Reolink was supposed to be one of the best local-friendly cam companies... Strike 1: I can't set up my new Reolink camera without the App initially (web UI disabled by default). Strike 2: Can't add RTSP user even in app, so I have to use admin for RTSP?!

QuadRF is a phased array antenna that can see WiFi through walls, spot drones in the sky... and it's powered by a Pi 5 and FPGA board. Very neat device, we have a full video up on Geerling Engineering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QESevE2c_cc

I tested WisdPi's 10G Ethernet Expansion Card for Framework computers. Good news: It can hit 9.4 Gbps, in certain scenarios. And it'll be < $100. Bad news: It uses USB-C and that means the combinations where it'll hit full speed are limited 🥲 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMXT6mEPR0Q

Every month it seems like another YT channel I follow in tech replaces the human voice backing videos with a cloned AI voice. Makes me wonder at what point in the past they went all-in on generated scripts. (It's not all bad, if someone is still at the helm who actually cares. But overall quality declines.)
