I still lurk on the r/London subreddit and came across this hilarious piece of activist art which turns a bin into a "smart glasses amnesty bin" that apparently is just across the Ray Ban store. 💅 https://www.reddit.com/r/london/comments/1wdqum6/outside_ray_ban_covent_garden/ #pervertglasses

Shocker, the deskilling machine successfully deskills school kids - to the tune of them being a full year behind their peers who are "left behind" by *checks notes* actually learning! «if our institutions, news and elected officials continue to feed and water the oil company-conceived mega-falsehood that climate breakdown is something just “our great-grandkids need to worry about,” human civilization as we know it will collapse and billions could die. The thing that really gets me with the Wikimedia Foundation's response to their staff wanting a union: Imagine you're charged with running the world's biggest free knowledge resource, which is only possible because of an army of nerds who love nothing more than fact-checking. And then decide to bullshit that very crowd of people. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Workers_United/Claims_and_responses #wwu #wikipedia #wikimedia

In another edition of "are the LLM addicts okay?": Apparently some of them think "people who weren't allowed to use unlimited resources for vibe coding on a community-run, free platform" should be counted among the victims of Nazi Germany, or something? https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:3x6sabry56u7xeyr3w3tn55f/post/3mrfqsminhk27

It was a great pleasure to write up this post about the #Codeberg's recent votes with respect to LLMs and the impact that LLM have on #FLOSS more broadly, together with @Gusted@social.linux.pizza and @fnetX@social.anoxinon.de: Protecting our FLOSS commons from LLMs https://blog.codeberg.org/protecting-our-floss-commons-from-llms.html

I co-proposed/wrote the #Codeberg vibe-coding ban and all I got was a lot of haters in my mentions. And a nearly 70% approval rate, with one of the highest voter turnouts the association had afaik (and one that's comparable to the last EU elections). 😎

«According to a study, more than two-thirds of Germans believe that their ancestors were not Nazis. Nearly 36% believe that their relatives were among the victims, and over 30% believe that their ancestors helped victims of the Nazis — for example, by hiding Jews. But this can't possibly be true. Only about 1% of Germans actively resisted.» If folks wonder how the German 'remembrance culture is going 🙈 https://www.dw.com/en/how-do-germans-cope-with-having-nazi-grandparents/a-7788659...

«Theoretical tools are now often software, whose complexity makes its behavior inscrutable to its users and puts them at risk of losing their tools to software collapse. Scientific instruments increasingly rely on built-in computers that create exactly the same issues. Finally, digital technology has enabled industrial-scale production of data, e.g. in DNA sequencing, and that technology is itself not convivial either.» Great reflections on conviviality by @khinsen@scholar.social https://blo...

Participated in a research interview this morning about how "AI" is destroying digital commons I co-run in various ways. Right afterwards read an email, by someone I used to think highly of, about how banning LLM usage in a FLOSS project was futile…

RE: https://floss.social/@CoMaps/116555851287909865 This is a feature many folks have been waiting for. Between this and the ability to self-host your maps, deploying CoMaps in places with limited connectivity is now even easier!

I hadn't used RStudio in a while – partially for not really using R and partially for disliking Posit – but had to use it a bit today. When trying to commit changes, I noticed that RStudio seems to have touched the `.Rbuildignore` and `.gitignore` without ever asking me. The things it added? `.claude` and `.positai`… Bad enough that they push that "AI"-garbage in the first place, but making every user look like they touch that shit? Despicable!
