@Daojoan@mastodon.social 'AI' seems uniquely bad because of the very high cost of entry. VCs are far more cowardly herd animal and much less adventurous than advertised across the board; but that matters less when the cost of entry is close to zero and the burn rate is a handful of developer salaries; while it is the single concern when you need to set a billion dollars on fire just to sit at the table.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social Along with the issue where copilot could 'summarize' files without access to those files showing up in the audit log; it looks alarmingly like copilot-related controls don't actually control copilot, just try to pick up the pieces after the fact.

@cR0w Having a 9.3 in your captive portal is really impeccable ""None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me" execution.

@amanda@social.spejset.org It's exceptionally odd how 'AI' has managed to(in some circles) totally flip the implications that existed around search engines. "let me google that for you" was understood as a blunt rebuke that you were asking a question so trivial that it was basically an insult; and, even back when google tried to be useful, returning raw search engine output was a deliberate slap in the face. The Harvard Business review piece on 'workslop' has less...

@josephcox In fairness; a bot that is sabotaging facebook ranks ahead of a facebook employee on 'alignment' with humanity at large.

Does anyone know if there have been any recent incidents with .rdp phishing? It's been known for ages that getting someone to accept a connection with 'drives' included goes badly; so I was surprised when they just suddenly, with little notice, added a first .rdp scary warning and per-publisher resource options(still no option to just allowlist specific publishers for your environment, it seems). Normally they roll that sort of thing out fairly slowly; so I'm won...

@GossiTheDog Not a huge surprise, with bankers and suits; but what always baffles me is how 'AI' means that the sky is falling and it's a totally new world or something; but we're just awash in a sea of low-hanging security improvements that the people who care are just screaming futilely into the void about. Not even gearhead stuff(though there is that as well); but 'vaguely competent IT minion does inventory' level problems get zero interest.

Probably too soon to actually be connected with the recent "Ex-Google boss confirmed as new BBC director general" incident; but has the feel of a good fish-rotting-from-the-head behavior that you'd catch from ex-google leadership.

I'm not sure if "sometimes you have to escalate to de-escalate" is going to end up as this round's "you go to war with the army you have" or if we'll be getting something yet worse soon enough.

On the subject of "contrafactual tracks to soothe auditors"; it seems immediately obvious that Minor Threat's "Insider Threat" and The Beach Boys' "Shodan Safari" would qualify. Any other good candidates?
