“And once freed from the false satisfaction of believing we are changing the world with our day jobs, perhaps we will be inspired to fill that hole with something real — true altruism, not its artificial Workism substitute — by actually trying to impact real people, in our communities, in real ways.” https://www.noemamag.com/why-is-everyone-in-tech-so-sad

🌿 Paris has been making rounds with urban transformations, so here’s a recent example of Warsaw city center—Złota and Zgoda streets. Converted from pure concrete to greenery. #sustainability #environment https://www.whitemad.pl/en/new-centre-of-warsaw-zlota-street-has-gone-green/

✍🏻 “AI” Statement I finally had the time, space, and inspiration from @beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com to write down what I’ve been mulling over for a long time. ”When it becomes increasingly unsafe to have any other than unfettered enthusiasm stance in the workplace, here I’m in position to make my own judgments. Avoiding the use of 'AI' is a conscious choice I’ve made through the lens of purpose and ethics.” https://karolinaszczur.com/ai

When leaders want velocity, I tap the sign: “Vibe coding by people who don't know what good looks like, is not only making things worse, it's making things worse at a speed and scale hitherto unachieved by non-AI assisted humans.” Expertly put by @tink@w3c.social: https://tink.uk/accessibility-is-resistance/

When looking for a new role (or evaluating a current one) I've been using similar approaches to @lara’s worksheet. While it's harder to be picky while tech is going through an upheaval, being clear about must haves, nice to haves and long-term goals makes it easier to avoid the mistake of a misaligned fit when evaluating opportunities. https://larahogan.me/blog/identify-new-role/

I know Letterboxd sold to Tiny a while ago, but selling to Netflix is a much bigger horror for the beloved indie platform 😔 https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/jul/10/letterboxd-netflix-sales-talks

How we speak matters, as language further legitimizes how we see the world. I’ve heard all sorts of “AI” anthropomorphisations, including “AI”-centric vernacular used to replace common phrases (“I blanked” → “my brain dropped some tokens”; I don’t even). @emilymbender@dair-community.social and Nanna Inie have a great guide on how to speak about “AI” without amplifying capabilities and humanity it doesn’t have. https://buttondown.com/maiht3k/archive/how-to-talk-about-ai-without-adding-to-the/

“When the AI companies say AI will democratise imagination, they are saying AI will democratise our anomalous Western definition of imagination. This is what is at stake. Not “imagination” in the Western sense of creative production. Not “the interior” as a private psychological space. The dreamspace — the imaginal commons that is the actual ground of human meaning, future-making, and relational existence.” http://archive.today/Z6wyN

I’ve spent countless hours taking product screenshots for comms and documentation. Each time wondering why isn’t there a solution for this yet (other than avoiding visuals, which imho cuts out a visual mode of learning many rely on). Highly annoying @benschwarz solved this exact problem after my time! :blobcatgiggle: https://front-end.social/@benschwarz/116515146530081465

I’ve been privy to the weeks of research and experimentation that culminated in @benschwarz’s map implementation. not only it’s so much better than many janky, JavaScript based maps I was forced to use in the past, I also wish more people cared about details as much as this does ♥️ https://front-end.social/@benschwarz/116445796505977800

”The hectobillionaires have begun their final assault on the last, best parts of what's still open, and likely won't rest until they've either brought all of the independent and noncommercial parts of the Internet under their control, or destroyed them.” @anildash on the existential threat to the open web: https://www.anildash.com/2026/03/27/endgame-open-web/

At best, you've surrendered; at worst you're complicit in the outcome.” another great essay from Rebecca Solnit about resolute defiance. https://www.meditationsinanemergency.com/between-the-impossible-and-the-inevitable-the-case-for-defiance-aka-never-f-king-surrender/

in the absence of photo-oriented website (for now), and instagram account (forever), going to start sharing some of my photography here. it’s a rare, empty escalator of the Parliament Station in Melbourne CBD. it used to be the longest escalator in the Southern Hemisphere (30m), but has been surpassed by several others since, including the new State Library Station (42m). it’s impossible to not get vertigo/heebie jeebies here. #photography

In a race to the bottom where the value is solely blasting through to the next set of deliverables, your skill and craft and taste are maladaptive.” https://productpicnic.beehiiv.com/p/ai-layoffs-like-block-s-are-a...
