Hey Amsterdam friends. I’m looking for a room to rent in the city. Please give me a shout if you know of anything available or someone looking for a housemate. Cheers! Edit: despite my profile pic I won’t have any pets with me! Retoots appreciated!

when you suspect something is made with gen ai don't say if you like it or not, just ask who made it and let them answer

bsky ceo saying all the things you say when your product is being used correctly and you don't like it and you can't do shit because it was created out of mechanism porn and you thought that was what design is. https://bsky.app/profile/theverge.com/post/3ms744kwgha2n

Sonic actually got his powers from an irradiatied bidet. "Gotta go fast" was his catchphrase before he could run really fast.

I wonder how much the vibe code cleanup consultants find that the project has no guiding purpose or source of truth to quickly understand how a feature fits in

Consider supporting @kimcrawley@zeroes.ca 's Kickstarter campaign for her new book, Recovering After Gen AI, scheduled for October release. Kim has previously published cybersecurity books with O'Reilly and Wiley, but is now self-publishing her Big Tech critical books. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kimcrawley/recovering-after-gen-ai

what is "bad design" for a product category where the only concrete purpose being "designed" for is to make it appear to be something which it is not via the presentation layer

RE: https://hci.social/@fasterandworse/116959338567033281 I don't believe any brand should be trusted. No matter how much you enjoy, rely upon, or appreciate their product.

Ecosia, *ECOSIA*, wants you to know that "not everyone wants AI involved when they look for information" is a *you* problem, so they've done a mozilla-style opt-out. https://archive.is/FeXIk

This is a joke, right?

Whenever I open firefox and it says it was updated I have to check and make sure the AI kill switch is still on. That's what opt-out means.

> ...the AI kill switch ... has been flipped by just 1% of Firefox users to turn off AI completely. And it's being partially used by just 3% to turn off some AI features in the browser. THAT'S BECAUSE IT IS OPT-OUT! https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/mozillas-ceo-knows-you-might-not-want-ai-in-firefox/

Hi everyone, I unexpectedly lost a contract with my main client recently and haven't been able to find anything else since. If you know of Product Leadership roles where technical skills, particularly front end, are an advantage please share the details with me. I'm open to contract work or full time, either would be helpful. I'm based in Amsterdam, am an EU citizen, and I'm equipped for remote work. Boost welcome! Thanks so much #jobs #FediHire #getfedihir...

As soon as you defend a product with "it isn't useless" you're doing the thing the maker wants you to do. NOTHING is useless. It's the lowest bar for anything that exists, including a rock. What you're looking for is "it is the best thing that exists for this concrete purpose" then we can talk.

it's very deceptive to compare a sloppy sometimes-correct-for-massive-compute-cost machine to these things on the basis of "they all came from shitty people/places"

ok I need naming suggestions for the bluesky effect where a platform's hostility to a part of its userbase only makes that part stronger. For example the "AI Hater" label has created a cultural touchstone of *good people*
