TL;DR: 1. Flávio Bolsonaro: 47.03% (56.1 million votes) 2. Lula: 45.16% (53.9 million votes) The result was much better for the far right than I expected. It’s now very difficult to see Bolsonaro losing the second round. My feeling that we were heading for a repeat of 2018 was right. At least this time, it won’t come as a surprise. Prepare for an Americas increasingly dominated by the right and far right. Europe may soon find itself as one of the last major strongholds of liberal democracy,...

I’ve just brought back an old project I created in memory of Aaron Swartz: his Open Access Manifesto, available in 25 languages thanks to contributions from people around the world. https://openaccess.eza.link Feel free to send corrections or contribute missing languages. I wish Aaron were still here to stand with us through the challenges ahead. Maybe it’s time for a new manifesto, this time with a message for the Big Tech gurus. #AaronSwartz #OpenAccess #BigTech

RE: https://social.vivaldi.net/@everton137/117343529143301881 I'm really impressed by some of the answers so far. In just two days, I've heard so many different stories of people meeting in person through the #Fediverse: hanging out, going to concerts, helping each other out, meeting people visiting their city, starting a political group, founding an association, and even finding love! ♥️ So far, 41% of 311 respondents, almost 130 people, say they've met someone in person through th...

Have you ever met someone from the Fediverse in person to do something together? I don't mean at a Fediverse-related event. If you have, I'd be curious to hear what kind of activity brought you together. I've seen people from other social media platforms organize offline activities and meetups, Facebook and Instagram (Meta), Orkut (Google), and Twitter (now X), and I'm curious whether this happens through the Fediverse too. Please, boost to find more activities, if any. #Soci...

@pait@mastodon.social I think there's a difference. The AfD is a Russian party, while Die Linke has some Russian influence.

One of the greatest dangers posed by the recent censorship of A/I is that it could be just a test case for the US government to determine how easily it can isolate and silence privacy-oriented infrastructure beyond its borders. Anyone who works on or cares about digital infrastructure, privacy, or freedom of expression should be alarmed. This issue concerns more than just one small Italian collective. I fear this is only the beginning. #Autistici #Inventati #Privacy #USPol #DigitalSovereignty

A compelling article on the advantages of #Reticulum over #Meshtastic and #MeshCore: https://www.jonaharagon.com/posts/im-getting-into-mesh-networks-meshtastic-meshcore-and-reticulum/ Meshtastic and MeshCore make it relatively easy to set up local LoRa mesh networks, but in practice they remain largely tied to LoRa devices and messaging. Reticulum goes further: it can build a more resilient network by routing across different kinds of connections, including LoRa, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, microwave li...

Today I joined the Open Monday at xHain (@xHain_hackspace@chaos.social) Hack+Makespace. It was great to discover the space, and I really appreciate that they set aside a day to welcome everyone. I hope I can join one of their upcoming events about using LoRa radio devices to build mesh networks! I’m particularly curious to learn more about Reticulum. I’m still waiting for my devices to arrive so I can start experimenting with them. Ah, it's awesome that they accept dogs! #LoRa #MeshNetwo...

RE: https://mstdn.social/@ricardoharvin/116937462695002300 When a coup d’état is about to happen in a country generally ignored by Western media, I often see more public attention than we are giving to this actual threat to the entire world. By "attention," I don't mean amplifying the future king of the world's trolling. I mean seriously discussing the implications of what he's saying and doing. #USPol

I remember asking people at the last #FOSDEM about ways to communicate by radio in case of an Internet blackout. I explored a few possibilities, but no one mentioned #mesh networks, even though I'd first heard about them more than 10 years ago from an activist friend living in Pará, near the Amazon rainforest. A few weeks ago, I bookmarked a video on the topic. I finally watched it yesterday and discovered #Meshtastic. Since then, I've also come across #MeshCore, #Reticulum, and #atak....

If the Internet disappeared tomorrow, what would still work, and how could we still communicate? I just watched a presentation by @vaurora@mstdn.social about the idea and would like to follow one of her suggestions: https://bowshock.nl/irc/#short-version Is there already an Internet Resiliency Club in #Berlin? I'm aware of #Freifunk and its established work. This seems broader and complementary: a group for practical experiments with mesh networks, offline communication, local services, a...

Unfortunately for some, I will be posting more often about ADHD. I will openly discuss the subject and share what I have learned. Recently, at a party, I had a conversation with a mother whose daughter has ADHD. Initially, she was thought to be unintelligent until she was diagnosed and several measures were taken, such as attending a school with fewer students and taking medication. During the conversation, this mother made an intriguing comment: She said that she had asked her daughter not to...

I had the opportunity to tell the founders of the Sovereign Tech Agency (@sovtechfund@mastodon.social) that I'm a big fan of their organization. I firmly believe that other countries should have similar initiatives. In fact, the EU should have one too. Their recent €600k+ grant to Mastodon is a great example of what public investment in open digital infrastructure can look like. It strengthens the Fediverse, a real alternative to X. As I’ve argued in the #LeaveX campaign: we already have a...
