We are so lucky enshittification took hold as late as it did. Imagine having to debug a 1990s PC with beep codes for 'the signing certificate on your graphics card ROM is expired' or having a PXE BIOS preboot network environmental to check your OS licence has not expired

Some days I wonder how many resources we could save if we instead taught people some basic understanding of safety. All those manuals that start with 35 pages of "do not attempt to eat your router", "do not place product in the microwave", "do not operate in a room filled with petrol vapour" could be so much smaller. I mean it's not like the kind of people who try and eat their router actually read the manual in the first place anyway.

I was trying to put together a summary of why #AI code s banned from Fuzix Having thought about it a bit I realised it can be put several ways but it really already been said by Marx (and Engels), and to be fair also the same basic beliefs in many other groups: "The workers should own the means of production" LLM #AI, aside from all the stolen content and environmental damage is not owned by the workers. It's no different to depending upon an proprietary compiler someone can tak...

This is your periodic reminder that all the code you browse via the web UI of something like a #git repository doesn't necessarily match what you get via a git clone. In fact it's really easy to serve a trojan that's only in the git clone view so if you need to inspect code do it on the pulled copy. Of course I can also only serve the trojan version to selected IP ranges matching a given corporation too. Isn't supply chain trust fun !

More baby steps on UK plug in #solar Core of the interim standard is basically DIN VDE V0126-95 with tweaks for the UK. Max 800W per house, doesn't yet cover batteries but otherwise really isn't terribly interesting. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6a31167d15f2a70fac7e6026/plug-in-solar-interim-product-specification.pdf

@statsguy@mas.to Anyone who has been following energy prices (as opposed to consumer prices) for the past year has been amazed it's taken so long for Eon and Octopus to jump. Energy prices have fallen a chunk, so the government stuffed more taxes and levies on it quietly. Some is getting reversed in April when bits are moved to general taxation and the ECO4 scam goes away (the one where they charged mostly poor people to offer grants to poor people for substandard insulation that wrecked th...

@themediumkahuna@tech.lgbt It's great once you start to look 60 nobody dares to challenge your right to wear a onesie whilst going to the shops. I'm wondering if I can push it to going out on my mobility scooter when the weather improves dressed as a pink fluffy unicorn.

@JugglingWithEggs we have a serious lack of building inspectors. They know they can get away with it. Builders do stuff like send pictures of previous jobs as the new one knowing nobody checks, or only throwing insulation loosely into walls except the last corner they leave uncovered for inspection. Everyone knows, nobody has time to care, and new build customers are already the gullible ones so don't do thermal imaging inspections

Whenever some politician or party apologist whines about having to stay on twitter because some of our potential voters are on twitter, remind them that probably even more of their potential voters are on pornhub but they are not active there.
