When your #ZorinOS computer boots in KERNEL PANIC! mode, that you go to your favourite forum (https://forum.zorin.com/) and realise that everybody else has the same problem... 😅😬 (#Linux is not easy all the time.. on the other hand my Windows computer again restated without my permission yesterday and corrupted several of my files that word was unable to load, but fortunately Libre Office could recover them)

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Zestryon/116833188436897537 Could someone remake this without genAI? If I don't get a volunteer within the next hour I'll have to make it myself.. but it will be ugly..

Ugh, some #Linux software could really make an effort to be more like its Windows software equivalent, why is it so hard to figure out how to paste a plain / full shape in LibreOfficeDraw or "Pinta"? I'm trying to use Linux more but sometimes it can be tedious..

Hi all, since I've just discovered all this information about how to properly take care of one's teeth (had to recently go to dentist, for some reason we are not really taught this in France) I thought I would share the knowledge, if you know better, please correct me! What should you do to take care of your teeth at any age: Do not drink or eat sweet things. Sugar feeds the bad bacteria which then create cavities. If you really have to consume things with sugar then rince your mouth wit...

Little #MastodonTip : if you ask a question in a post and eventually get a good answer, you can edit your post with the answer added! That way people who have boosted it will know the answer as well (it should notify them) and people who see it know that there is no need to answer.

Question specifically for people in #Scotland who have bought a property there: is it normal not to be allowed further visits of the property, once your offer has been accepted, and until missives are concluded? Can you push back against that? #Glasgow #Edinburgh (etc.) #PropertyBuying

Does anyone here do the "slicing" phase of 3D printing on #Linux? if so, what software do you use for it? I'm used to #Chitubox but it only has a Windows and MacOS installer. Anyone managed to get that to work on Linux (#Ubuntu or #ZorinOS)? #3DPrinting

"ERC reverses controversial grant restrictions" https://www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-europe-horizon-2020-2026-4-erc-reverses-controversial-grant-eligibility-changes/ I haven't followed this so much but it seems good that the European Research Council listened to the pushback from researchers about this new policy, and it shows that coordinated complaining can work! #ERC #EUResearch #AcademicChatter

@alternativeto Every ad that we see makes an imprint in our brain. It uses our own brain resources to store itself in memory, in the connections between our own neurons, because that's what our brains naturally do. Who knows, it might even be consolidated in there and compete with actual, useful memories of our real lives.. Biasing the competition in their favour, ads are designed to attract our attention and stick in our memory as much as possible. Like cigarettes rot our lungs, it's...

I know this is not really a Mastodon topic but would anyone recommend an "investment platform" that only invests in ecologically-friendly / ethical companies? For example #Nutmeg (now part of JP Morgan) has a "socially-responsible investing" pot but it funds companies like Microsoft, Apple and Tesla 🙃 #Investing #EcologicalInvesting #EthicalInvesting

@eunews pretty sure this is a fake - the real one is in French... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TTU7JRqjdxA not sure how this English version was made but it is not the real speech. Edit: actually this link is the full version and while the translation does seem accurate it is still wrong to simply replace the voice of someone with a completely different voice and language, without any mention of such manipulation: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B3nROpxUTYw

"Why are flights in the UK so often cheaper than taking the train?" Some of the reasons are nonsensical: for trains: "The fuel is subject to VAT at 5% on diesel and 20% on electricity.". this should be the reverse?!? for planes: "Fuel accounts for a much bigger part of airlines’ costs, but they do not have to pay VAT or duty on it.". whyyyy?? https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2025/nov/19/why-are-flights-in-the-uk-so-often-cheaper-than-taking-the-tra...
