I was so impressed with the MacBook Neo after reviewing it that I bought one. I use it primarily as a computer in the living room, something to grab off the coffee table in those "what's that actor's name again...?" moments. I'm still very happy with it, but have additional thoughts since I reviewed after owning one for almost 8 weeks. Would this be something you'd be interested in reading? #macbookneo #apple

A big data center is planned near Willie Nelson’s home, and the Red-Headed Stranger is not havin’ it. Don’t mess with Willie! https://www.chron.com/culture/music/article/willie-nelson-texas-data-centers-22364250.php

Seeing online reports that John C. Dvorak, longtime computer columnist and podcaster, has died. Have not seen a confirmation of this, but apparently he died after complications from heart bypass surgery. He and I were co-panelists many times on @TWiT@mastodon.social over the years, and his early writings were an inspiration for me to get into tech journalism. RIP.

USB-C was supposed to be the one cable to rule them all. But different cables have different capabilities; telling them apart isn't easy. WhatCable is a free, open-source app for Macs will tell you what a cable can (and can’t) do. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/tech/article/whatcable-usb-c-mac-app-22233327.php?utm_source=marketing&utm_medium=copy-url-link&utm_campaign=article-share&hash=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaG91c3RvbmNocm9uaWNsZS5jb20vYnVzaW5lc3MvdGVjaC9h...

Nerdiest joke ever. From my daughter, who we clearly raised right.

I've been so excited about the explosion of new Mastodon apps that I decided to write about it in my column, with a focus on @ivory and @icecubesapp@mastodon.cloud. A thousand flowers blooming! https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/article/twitter-mastadon-elon-musk-apps-migration-17746197.php?utm_source=marketing&utm_medium=copy-url-link&utm_campaign=article-share&hash=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaG91c3RvbmNocm9uaWNsZS5jb20vYnVzaW5lc3MvYXJ0aWNsZS90d2l0dGVyLW1hc3RhZG9uL...

There are a lot of knee-jerk, AAIAB (All AIs Are Bad) stances among some writers, but used properly, it's just another tool in the box. @mathewi@journa.host nails it. https://torment-nexus.mathewingram.com/using-ai-to-write-isnt-always-wrong-and-other-heresies/

The FCC's goofy foreign-made router ban (surprise! All consumer routers in the US are made overseas) is dumb enough on its face, but there's a dumber problem looming next year, when its rules may forbid router makers from updating their firmware, even to fix vulnerabilities. https://www.ookla.com/articles/here-are-the-top-vendors-affected-by-the-fccs-new-router-rules

Head's up, Mastodon users: There appears to be a coordinated effort to impersonate relatively high-profile people who have accounts on various instances but who have not used them in a while. I've gotten several follow notifications - and a couple of DMs - from impersonators of people I know. The bogus accounts have lots of underscores in the handles, and they repost items from the past, sometimes years old. If you spot this, please report, do not engage, and then block. Pls...
