RE: https://c.im/@cdarwin/117368389650768955 Nobel winner Paul Krugman, one of the signers, alerted his followers to the most important aspect of the billionaire tax a few months ago. It's a tax on wealth, not income, and would be one of the world's first, a precedent that could spread and make them pay up worldwide. Thats why they're in such a panic. Be sure to vote "yes" on 40, and "no" on 41 and 42, red herrings designed to neutralize 40.

Today I learned that the saxophone player for the classic rock group Lighthouse was Howard Shore, who went on to compose the astoundingly good music for "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. I had forgotten this song until Tidal recommended it today. https://tidal.com/track/77413362/u #HowardShore #ClassicRock #LOTR #TIL

Throwback Thursday Don (blue shirt) and Craig with the girls at the entrance to Disney's California Adventure, probably 2009 or 10. For timeline reference, the little ones are now 25!

Today is little Kate's close up. She is about a week younger than the other 2 new kittens, sleeps a little more, and is a little quieter overall. As you can see, she's a sweetheart! I think her coloring will make her a really beautiful cat when she grows up. #CatsOfMastodon #Cats

Taking an example from @NorcalGma2@sfba.social I just signed up to send handwritten postcards to voters in swing states. They supply the postcards and addresses, you buy postcard stamps (61 cents, but the price goes up in a week and they're good forever, I ordered 100 online from USPS.com) Let's work together and win this fall! https://secure.ngpvan.com/bcp6GpoxVEC3b1bF0GqgZg2?

You know of my love for "Tales of the City" and its author Armistead Maupin. SFGate has this lovely story about the real Barbary Lane (actually Macondray Lane, hidden but public if you know where to look.) The story also features the neighbors who keep up all the hidden lanes of Russian Hill in San Francisco. #TalesOfTheCity #ArmisteadMaupin #SFGate https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/barbary-lane-san-francisco-22315552.php

There is only one good self serve wand-type carwash in the Coachella Valley. After giving my car the special attention it deserves, I found today's carspotting subject. It's a first generation VW Rabbit diesel hatchback. This one's in really nice daily driver condition. I had a gas-powered 1974 Rabbit, bought new very soon after they were introduced, yellow like this one but a lighter shade. #WeirdCarMastodon #VW #VWRabbit #VWGolf #ClassicCars

Armistead Maupin, author of my beloved "Tales of the City" books and screenplays, has had a blog for a few months. This story was just published, about his very first gay experience in the summer of 1969. It's sweet. There are about 10 "episodes" so far, all of them in his signature storytelling style. For all my fellow car enthusiasts, he included this photo with his Sunbeam Alpine. #TalesOfTheCity #ArmisteadMaupin #WeirdCarMastodon https://armisteadmaupin.subs...

Craig and daughter Rachel and I saw Project Hail Mary yesterday. I read the book last year, then both of them did, too. The idea of a human/alien meeting where each helps the other is so refreshing. So is the fantastical idea that all nations of Earth would cooperate on a long-range goal to save us all. We loved the movie, and thought it did a good job transforming Andy Weir's ultra-granular level of scientific detail into a movie. Big "fist my bump" to the Rocky...

The Atlantic has an excellent article just published about the WASPs, a crew of women pilots who played a vital role in WWII, only to have their work hushed up because, "well, you know, they were just women." Gift article. The fictional town of Darrowby in the Yorkshire Dales is filmed in the actual village of Grassington, home to a charming visitors center. Sheep are *everywhere* in the Dales, and they sold this mug with whimsical sheep. I think coffee mugs are a great way to remember a special trip. This one reminds me of the day I stood in front of Skeldale House. https://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/places/grassington_national_park_centre/ #AllCreaturesGreatAndSmall

Non-rage, non-scary fun thing: A Mastodon post months ago showed me WeatherStar4000+ from netbymatt.com, a functional duplicate of the old current conditions display from the Weather Channel on cable. It even includes the light jazz background music from the old days. Fun. Try your own location! https://weatherstar.netbymatt.com/ PS, today's weather is the reward year-round desert residents receive for staying through the 120-degree F temperatures in the high summer. #CAWX #Weather...
