I tried to contact a speech therapist about my speech problems, and that therapist was like, "Your speech isn't good but I don't hear anything I can help with". I wish it was more like "Dude, here's your problem, you can fix it by doing this one exercise", but it is what it is, unfortunately. #SpeechImpediment

@hugoestr I find even mindless tasks difficult at the moment, to be fair! The hardest part is that I have a recording session with friend's band in a couple of days, which cannot be changed because it's a rare opportunity to work with a visiting sound engineer. So I need to get my brain back to work by then.

@hugoestr I'm not exactly a nap person... I normally don't fall asleep fast and don't feel refreshed after a short amount of sleep. If I don't have a chance to get a few hours of uninterrupted sleep I find it better not to sleep at all until I get that chance. It's different for everyone, I suppose.

@stroz @lydiaschoch Wait, are you implying John Mastodon is not a person?

This implies there are family-unfriendly, 18+ knits, like a pornographic jumper or something… #knitting

I've been working sixteen hours a day on two unrelated projects last two weeks. I've seen certain someone whom I see every week, and I was like [using the Alice and Bob convention], "hi Alice, it's so nice to see you again". Then I realized I the amount of time elapsed since the last time I had seen her wasn't unusual, I was just perceiving it as a lot of time due to the amount of work and the resulting sleep deprivation.

I was recording on the double bass barefoot, and a band member noticed that when I'm tired and tension has built up in my muscles I start curling my toes. I didn't even realize that I do and I'm not yet sure what to do with that observation. #music #bass

Very tangentially related to Good Friday: when I was a teen, there was a mentally ill woman who would often stand in front of local grocery stores and proclaim that "Friday is great! God will come on Friday!". That was curiously at odds with the Christian concept of Friday as the day when Jesus died and Sunday as the day when he came back. One could imagine her being influenced by Islam where Friday is a day of prayer but she never made any references to Allah or any Islamic te...

Recently my friend and I were discussing the possibility of a series about philosophical zombies, which is complicated by the fact that they are indistinguishable from humans and none of the usual tropes of zombie movies are applicable. A possible premise for the pilot episode of the series about philosophical zombies: the scientist who studies human color perception in a black-and-white room is afraid to get out of that room because if none of her experiences outside that room feel like quali...

Past week left me so exhausted that I can't even say there's "brain fog": there's no brain anywhere, only fog.

I got a cuddly toy as a promotional item and I think it's really pleasant to the touch. However, I also realize that the opinion of a person who thinks that double bass strings are usually pleasant to the touch is likely... quite far from any mainstream opinions about those matters. #music #bass

If anyone wants some schadenfreude material… I wrote a contrafact of “My funny Valentine”. I wanted to make a Valentine’s Day present for a friend and I thought she might find a contrafact of that tune funny. So I made a handwritten copy and went to the bar where she always works on weekends. But that time she was not working so I walked out with the handwritten copy still in my jacket's pocket. I went to a jam session where someone dropped my jacket while I was on stage, and I didn’t no...

I was checking in for a flight (once-a-year work thing, I'd happily not take any flights at all for obvious reasons) and found that my birth year was changed in RyanAir's account settings. I clicked on the saved passport and I feel very lucky its data is actually displayed and it caught my eye. It was not the data I saved and used previous times — everything was right except the birth year was five years off. I have no idea what would happen if I didn't notice and correct...

I'm hearing about a lot of companies mandating LLM and people becoming reliant on LLMs and losing their knowledge. However, I'm not hearing about companies changing their job interview processes to make allowances for people who lost their knowledge to LLMs. Which means a person who became reliant on them will find it more difficult to find another job, since they need to regain that knowledge to pass a coding interview. I'm pretty sure managers of companies with LLM usag...

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2517139-frailty-can-be-eased-with-an-infusion-of-stem-cells-from-young-people/ Good, younger generations are already running out of the ways to afford food and rent, so the opportunity to sell stem cells to boomers is very welcome. ;)

Random thought: I find it curious how "oublier" is a normal word in French but its cognates that made it into English ("obliviate" and "oblivion") have very specific and heavy connotations. #linguistics
