If your goal is not to be a lawyer, I would try connecting with non-profits in your area/state and asking if they know anyone who is seeking volunteers. Otherwise you have to go to law school, spend years studying, pay money.

Personally I’d just comply. They’re thugs, not law enforcement. They’ll hurt you and there will be no recourse available. If they’re there for someone else, I’d probably comfort that person and ask if there’s someone they’d like me to call.

It really depends on the degree to which the Republican party destroys elections. If they don't, Democrats have a large majority in the Millennial/early Gen-Z age group, so we could be looking at a good 30 years of majority control. That's almost certainly the reason they're working so hard to corrupt elections, and we'll see to what degree we'll be able to fight it.

I am low contact, but she is way too mentally ill to have positive relationships with people. I sympathize that she can't control it, but it's kind of like asking me to put my hand on a stove to please someone else. I truly gain nothing but unpleasant feelings from being around her. I feel nothing but aversion to the thought of being around her. Even as a child I avoided her.

It took decades of fighting to get smoking banned, and if everyone and their uncle didn't have a parent dying of lung cancer, it probably wouldn't have happened.

I don't know what you mean by describing it as "structurally racist". In the sense that it's viewing minorities as lesser? No. It obviously doesn't do that. It's just describing society the way we see it function. Regardless of the attitude of any individual, the structure of society is white supremacist. It's no different from saying "Someone telling you that the sky is green won't make you believe that the sky is green. It also won't prevent you from...

I don't use mastodon, but it doesn't look harder to use than any other social media. Like a mix between Twitter and Reddit but independent. Join communities you like, see related posts, like or leave a comment.

the average person doesn't eat much if any vegetables, leafy greens, or fruit, which fill up your stomach much more than meat or bread.

There is no dispute in rescues. Whoever is there first can take them. That's just practicality. You're not going to leave your own citizen there when you're there for a rescue. Outside of that context, you're subject to the laws of the nation you're standing in.

Republicans clearly don't. I imagine there are going to be a lot of bribes paid to keep him from doing it.

The issue is that the solution is a large increase in the minimum wage, more regulation over the healthcare industry, and a lot more taxes on the rich. 40% of the population have been brainwashed into believing the solution is a bad thing.

To be clear, the guys who voted against it in 2010 were literal 70 year old boomers who were raised in McCarthyism and scared of communism. Like actually cited that "it's too communist" as a reason to vote against it.

if you stay in a foreign country for 10+ years, your neighbors, shop keepers, etc. will get used to you. but really, the deciding factor in whether anyone can move to a foreign country is the work available to them. if you don't get a good job, with reasonable hours, probably with an international company, good luck making it work.

Sounds like what you're interested in is a social skills class for autism. I've heard of them in theory but have never seen any actually available to adults. My therapist suggested I try to find an autism specialist, but like, do those even exist?? As for your social interests, you'll just have to go to public hobby groups and figure it out. The NTs also didn't have a handbook. You're interested in dance classes? Your local community center probably has some. It's ok to...

Behavioral standards plummeted during the pandemic and never recovered. People are a lot more stressed, and they refuse to behave. We're divided, and it really does not help that our leadership literally believes that AI is going to replace most jobs.

I don't know that this has an appropriate comparison. Right now it's more like the US committed a terrorist attack than a war.
