#podcast commute! Super great episode of test set with Joe Cheng: https://posit.co/thetestset/episode/curiosity-duty-and-existential-dread-with-joe-cheng Grumpy take: this is not only managers or "lead" that are "gapfilling"๐ Really appreciate that Joe is sharing his ethical concerns about LLM and his tough process (I might disagree but it is refreshing that is not dodging it). To me it is not weird that Hadley trust more Claude in base R than himself. Would he have bu...

a coworker asked me how to style a basemap vector tile (you know one of the kind of issues they were developed...). I could not figure how to do that with their access to arcgis pro (agol is supposed to works easily, no idea). It was one copy paste, 3 clicks in #QGIS and very transparent. One day govt sector will wake up and rise!!! #gischat

3 nukes power plant stopped in France (water rejected was getting too hot). This is your monthly reminder that nuke is not the one trick solution and lowering consumption is still king!

@jamesfee@mastodon.social I have mixed feeling with "workflow" it has started to appear a bit of everywhere (From @f2harrell@mastodon.online https://www.fharrell.com/post/rflow/ or "Bayesian Workflow": https://sites.stat.columbia.edu/gelman/research/unpublished/Bayesian_Workflow_article.pdf). Those do not contradict your idea we are trying to integrate more being more explicit about the human in the loop but the word is still covering a lot of different practices. For some...

#geoAI #gis researchers in my feed, I failed to see how this https://research.google/blog/mapping-the-modern-world-how-s2vec-learns-the-language-of-our-cities/ is "a significant step toward foundational intelligence for #Geography " Rasterizing data (how did they handle support change?) and reducing dimensionality is nothing new (is innovation here that llm are good at "analyzing" some kind of "eigenvalues"?). Also is "embedding&am...

well even if news are saying "junior" do not exist anymore, I still find useful to gave less experienced people specific tasks that need to be done in one file (since they usually struggle with git) with clear input/output. "Having AI" is not a justification to give (or try to give in my case ๐ ) less structure. (it may sound obvious but sadly I feel it need to be repeated)

#Rstats, I failed for a long time to write tests, now my tests are still bad but way better than not having some! (and maybe I am slightly getting better at it). What helped me move on that was an @rOpenSci coworking event btw!

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@robinlovelace/116295268012278872 Adding to that praise that: - {gittargets} can allow you to do similar stuff than DBT to do "collaborative version controlled data transformation" (never try it since I have my own crappy function... but I should test) - {targets} has good integration with all objects storage (S3 like).

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@rOpenSci/116159038229593976 I truly believe providing other languages than English for "documentations" (broadly defined in my use cases) is an amazing tasks and truly help "democratize" anything computer/data science! Great job @rOpenSci!
