I was astonished, yesterday, talking to a friend in Ottawa. Me: "wait! Did you just say your daughter uses … a pencil? At high school?" 😵‍💫 Friend: "oh yes. The teachers are bringing pencil and paper back to counteract [other educational trends]." 😯 I admit, I didn't expect that. Bravo! 💐 "As AI use rises, some profs go back to pens and paper" Sorry, paywalled … Ottawa Citizen https://ottawacitizen.com/news/pens-and-paper-carleton-professors-students #noAI...

Oh, I like it already. Actor & author Ben McKenzie looks, intensely, at the camera and intones: "This is a film about a thing called cryptocurrency … It's pretty stupid." (Long, meaningful pause). 😂 Documentary: Everyone is Lying to You for Money. I'm watching it on CBC Gem for free. But it looks like you may also be able to stream it here: https://www.everyoneislying.com/ And here's a 30-minute interview with the filmmaker on youtube: (With shownotes and capti...

#usPol #dementia #lies I mean, this happens with old folks, it's just part of life. But #Trump holds so much cruel and destructive power ... and here we see that he is demonstrably living in a fantasy world. 😨 And he's supported, even protected and lied for, by politicians and billionaires - because that's convenient for their own selfish, destructive agendas. US-ians: get out the early vote! https://bird.makeup/users/ronfilipkowski/statuses/2097345734613811706

👀 yikes! Maybe knowledge doesn't safeguard us from misinfo? "Recently, a team … set out to test how the 'illusion of truth effect' interacts with our prior knowledge. Would it affect our existing knowledge? They used paired true and un-true statements, but also split their items according to how likely participants were to know the truth … Their results … suggest that prior knowledge won’t prevent repetition from swaying our judgements of plausibility." https://mstdn.fna...

😡 In case you don't get it … this jerk negates the whole purpose of that parking setup. People using mobility devices would be foiled by this asshat, as there is not room for them to get out of their vehicle and into their, say, wheelchair or scooter. #RUDE and mean. In my inbox, from #toronto mayor Olivia Chow: "With the airport expansion no longer moving forward, I have submitted an urgent motion to City Council with Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik to demand that the Province return the City’s land at Little Norway Park and Toronto Islands (including Hanlan’s Point Beach). This land belongs to the people of Toronto." 🎉 #TOpoli #ONpoli #cdnPoli #cdnPolitics

Do consider: might different working agreements for extreme heat days keep your team safer, more sustainable? "Extreme heat increases the risk of workplace injuries across Canada: Today in The Conversation Canada, Nick Turner from U. of Calgary, & Julian Barling & Kaylee Somerville from Queen’s U., examine how heat affects workers’ attention, judgment, balance and reaction time. Routine tasks can become more dangerous for those working indoors & outdoors." #heatwave ht...

@Cassandra@ottawa.place fyi I cleaned up this photo of my own poster, and made another version of it, with space to write in your own topic. I like @vlrny@disabled.social's postcard idea, and I'll make up some postcards with the blank version, and use them to harass my MP and the PM, since postage is free to parliament. Feel free to join me.
